Your Impact
As an OSP Engineer, you will be pivotal in shaping and executing our telecommunications projects. Your role will ensure the effective design, planning, and implementation of outside plant (OSP) engineering tasks that directly support our network infrastructure. By collaborating with government agencies and internal departments, you’ll help streamline processes, drive innovation, and deliver exceptional results that meet both client and company goals.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage OSP Engineer Tasks: Execute and manage comprehensive Outside Plant (OSP) tasks, including aerial, buried, and underground new build designs utilizing fiber technologies.

System Utilization: Leverage proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and key systems such as FROGS, Varasset, SiteTracker, and DPI/QPort to support project execution and reporting.

Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, construction, field operations) to ensure work prints and drawings align with project goals and specifications.

Network Infrastructure Planning: Collaborate with various teams to ensure the successful planning, execution, and delivery of network infrastructure projects.

Fiber Calculations: Accurately calculate cable counts (binders, groups, super groups) and fiber assignments in 12-fiber increments.

Copper Cable Expertise: Demonstrate a solid understanding of copper cables, including types, gauges, air pressure, cable counts, and related aspects (e.g., copper mining).

Regulatory Coordination: Work with the Department of Transportation (DOTs), cities, townships, and counties to locate facilities, and coordinate the redesign of roadways and infrastructure.

Cross-Team Partnership: Collaborate with Operations, Central Office, and Construction teams to ensure project requirements are aligned and timelines are met.

Project Management: Oversee complex projects such as Ethernet designs, road moves, and DSLAM deployments, ensuring all aspects are delivered on schedule.

Material and Permitting Oversight: Manage drafting, material identification, ordering, permitting requirements, and private Right-of-Way (ROW) negotiations.

Milestone Tracking: Establish and maintain project milestone dates to ensure timely delivery and completion.

Technical Knowledge: Apply knowledge of network and voice technologies to ensure the successful implementation of new or changing systems.

Engineering Experience: Possess experience in engineering backbone fiber, understanding legal mandates, road moves, rehab work, cell sites, and business customer needs (e.g., ASE, GigE).
CORE EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree or Proven Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or has over 3 years of proven hands-on experience in broadband, telecom, and Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering/Planning.

Telecom Experience: Extensive background in the telecom industry with practical expertise in both residential and commercial new builds, including aerial, buried, and underground deployments.

Technical Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with copper and fiber technologies, crucial for the planning and execution of OSP engineering projects.

Software Proficiency: Highly skilled in utilizing Microsoft Software (TEAMS, Outlook, Power Point) and specialized telecom software tools such as FROGS, Varasset, SiteTracker, DPI, and QPort for efficient project management and documentation.

Communication Skills: Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. Adept at effectively interacting with government agencies, internal stakeholders, contractors, and vendors to ensure clear project communication and alignment.

Proactive and Self-Motivated: A proactive, results-driven professional who thrives on meeting deadlines and pushing forward with minimal supervision. Consistently ensures project milestones are met and strives to exceed expectations.

Field Work: Comfortable with field work, including driving to site visits and customer locations to resolve issues related to outside plant infrastructure. Willing to engage directly with vendors, customers, and field teams to address and solve technical problems.
This position is remote; the candidate lives near: Illinois – (Along the I-57 Interstate, near Bloomington, Champaign, Effingham or Mt Vernon)
Pay Range - $38.00-$40.00 hourly/DOE
