GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position will be responsible for providing translations of all Spanish media produced by the Florida Lottery from English to Spanish including reviewing for grammatical correctness. This media includes but is not limited to: Advertising point of sale, internal flyers and communications, TV and radio scripts, print ads, website copy and content, and social media posts. This position reports directly to the Digital Marketing Manager, supporting the Marketing Division and all Lottery Divisions as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of the Lottery’s Responsible Gaming program, including the “No Underage Play” and “Play Within Your Means” messaging, and to ensure retailers and players are aware of the program, providing information as necessary.
- The copywriter will proofread existing Spanish translations for accuracy and provide any revisions.
- This position will be tasked with translating varying amounts of copy from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English when necessary.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Florida Lottery's Spanish-language website and Content Management System (CMS), ensuring content accuracy, relevance, and compliance with organizational standards.
- This position will work closely with the Marketing, Graphics and Advertising teams to brainstorm ideas, develop concepts, and articulate recommendations for best Spanish messaging.
- This copywriter should strive to be culturally neutral and use words that can be found in the Royal Spanish Academy’s Spanish Dictionary so that we can avoid words that only certain cultures may only understand.
- Previous experience in copywriting is an asset, particularly writing copy in a Marketing or a related field.
- This position will also be required to become familiar with Lottery industry terminology and refer to the Lottery’s Spanish glossary as needed.
- Other Marketing related duties as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Candidate must be fluent in speaking, writing, and reading in English and Spanish
- Familiarity with the common Spanish dialects spoken by the Hispanic population in Florida.
- Must be proficient in the Microsoft platform (Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel)
- Must be knowledgeable on professional proofreading best practices
- Must be detail-oriented, with the ability to spot errors
- Must be flexible and willing to work under tight deadlines with quick turnarounds, and able to multitask.
- Ability to take direction and work both independently and in a team environment.
Other job-related requirements for this position
- This position is expected to have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Spanish, OR Marketing, Advertising, or a related field is preferred.
- Must be able to show a strong proficiency in Spanish grammar with a neutral voice.
- A portfolio that showcases their expertise in writing compelling and creative copy will be required

Successful passing of a criminal background check (state, local, and national) is required.
A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

The types of confidential information may include, but are not limited to, payroll information, budget matters, policy decisions, tax matters, employee disciplinary issues, and other personnel data.
