Department Overview:

The UW–Madison Office of Sustainability serves as the institutional hub for sustainability efforts across campus. Made up of staff, faculty, and students, the Office of Sustainability plays a central role in developing strategic initiatives and goals, fostering partnerships, advancing sustainability education and research, and engaging campus, state, and national stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

-Demonstrated experience in developing and curating visual content, such as graphics and branding collateral, for print, digital, web, and/or social media.
-Excellent editorial skills and attention to detail.
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a complex, fast-paced setting.
-Experience working with, teaching, and/or mentoring undergraduates.


Preferred qualifications:

-Experience in photography and videography, including production and editing in a professional context.
-Experience with audio editing and production.
-Experience in event planning and execution.
-Experience with information technology tools, such as social media, e-marketing (MailChimp), or web editing (WordPress).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Candidates should have at least two years of professional experience in communications, marketing, design, event management, and/or student engagement, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Versatility, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset will be key attributes for the successful applicant.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Communications:

-Digital content and visual communications: photograph and/or shoot video; edit digital content; organize and manage digital media libraries.
-Social media and newsletter: develop social media content to align with newsletter publication, write short articles, assist with editing and/or scheduling.
-Design graphics and infographics to visualize engagement, metrics, and key sustainability data.
-Coordinate with subject matter experts at the Office of Sustainability to support communication around projects and programs.


Student engagement:

-Lead communications and outreach efforts for campaign-based, student-focused initiatives (e.g., the Focus on Energy Higher Education Kit Challenge and Zero Waste programming).
-Mentor undergraduate interns by reviewing graphic and written outreach materials, providing guidance to help them refine their work and build confidence.
-Provide support for student interns as needed, including Podcast, Communications, and Education & Outreach teams.
-Programming, collaborating, and event management
-Support collaboration with MKT 355: Marketing in the Digital Age by curating campaign assets and answering student inquiries about resources for their Meta ad campaigns.
-Support and/or co-lead planning and execution for events like Sustain-a-Bash, the Sustainability Symposium, and Earth Fest.


General:

-Support Office of Sustainability staff, including providing editing, research, and/or content creation assistance.

Physical Demands:

Periodic standing, walking, sitting, and/or lifting small-medium objects.
