Department Overview:

The Office for Faculty Affairs and Development at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is dedicated to ensuring that SMPH faculty have the resources, skills, and competencies they require to lead successful and fulfilling professional lives. Our office is responsible for providing professional development programming to advance the careers of faculty on all tracks and all campuses. We accomplish this by creating and implementing various faculty development events and programs that are available to SMPH faculty members. In addition, we also support the development of SMPH processes and policies related to faculty.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated content development/management, data tracking and management, event logistics experience and web design experience using a content management system (CSM) for information and marketing dissemination.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Preferred experience with WordPress, WiscWeb and UW Theme template and event logistics
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• High level of professionalism with team members
• Preferred some familiarity with best practices for webpage, interface design and data management
• Commitment to best practices for web content in multiple areas including diversity, equity, and inclusion topics and continual learning in this area
• Knowledge of Box, Google Drive, spreadsheets, and word editing tools
• Hands-on experience using and designing documents with Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint)
• Knowledge of basic photo and web graphics editing
• Familiarity with principles of marketing and multimedia communication
• Excellent team player, with the ability to work independently to bring tasks to completion within deadlines
• Flexibility with dynamic requests, tasks, priorities, and deadlines

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The student worker will support faculty event logistics and use the UW-Madison WordPress theme for website development. With guidance from the Director of Faculty Development Programming and in collaboration with team members, the student worker will create and test web pages using a variety of source material. Prioritize website requests for revised and new intranet content, project management and providing updates to colleagues about the status of tasks, balancing team needs. The student worker will collaborate with staff to develop creative approaches for communications, dissemination and promotional strategies to effectively reach faculty and other health professional and university audiences across the statewide campus. The student worker will also help build and test forms, surveys, and other content as needed. This position requires excellent communication, creativity, and attention to detail. The student worker will be trained on and asked to follow UW and school brand and editorial guidelines as well as best practices for search engine optimization and accessibility. Selection and basic editing (e.g. resizing and color-correction) of photos and graphics will also be required to build out web pages. The student worker will independently produce professional-quality content and draft files for print and digital communications. The student worker will perform administrative services, such as data tracking, word processing, proofreading, fact checking, web-based searches, preparing packets for distribution, and other clerical help. The student worker will write draft content including feature articles, webpage content, news releases, and other types of communication published online or in print as needed.
