JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Intern to join our accounting department for a summer internship program. This position is ideal for a rising senior pursuing a four-year degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. The intern will gain practical experience in various accounting functions and contribute to the accuracy and efficiency of our financial reporting processes.

This is a fulltime internship (40 hours per week) for a period of 9 weeks during the summer.

  • Timing: The 2025 summer internship will begin Monday, June 9th and conclude on Friday, August 8th.
  • Hours: Interns should be able to commit to NORC’s 8:15 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. CDT business hours.
  • Compensation: The hourly rate of pay is $22.
  • Location: The 2025 Internship will take place virtually. You will be sent a NORC laptop.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Support the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Help reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts
  • Participate in the month end close process
  • Assist in the preparation of journal entries and account analyses
  • Support the internal audit team in documenting and testing internal controls
  • Help maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
  • Contribute to the preparation of tax related documents and filings

REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Rising senior status in a four-year degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools
  • Understanding of internal control concepts
  • Interest in pursuing CPA certification
