This is a work from home position, but we are only considering applicants who are located in the Central or Eastern Time Zones.

What you’ll be doing 

Troubleshoot and resolve simple to complex network outages (layers 1-3) and service interruptions Use established policies and procedures to provide timely and accurate ticket updates Use network monitoring tools and ticket tracking systems to help diagnose, record, and resolve network issues Utilize basic LAN configurations (Routers / Firewalls) and Microsoft operation systems Provide end-to-end network documentation Participate in an on-call rotation with other NOC engineers Liaison between engineering group and client staff – both technical and non-technical personnel Work in a group/team setting

What you’ll bring

  • Understanding of the NOC's escalation, incident management, and change management processes and procedures.    
  • Knowledge of large enterprise and campus LANs, Wi-Fi/WLANs   
  • TCP/IP, IP addressing, telnet, SSH experience  
  • Experienced supporting a BGP environment and other routing protocols (Static, EIGRP, and OSPF)   
  • Experienced supporting Radius, DHCP, and DNS servers   
  • Experienced with Large Scale NAT or Carrier Grade NAT appliances and Load Balancers   
  • Strong customer-facing skills and business etiquette   
  • Effective communication skills   
  • Ability to work independently and maintain fast-paced milestones and deliverables   

   

Education and Certifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, IT, or commensurate experience    
  • CCNA Certification or better   
  • A Wireless Certification (CWNA/CWNP, Cisco, or Aruba)

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Network Engineer in Austin, TX. The primary responsibility of this role is to design new networks in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment, which will constitute 80% of the work. The remaining 20% will involve serving as an escalation point for the Network Operations Center (NOC). This position requires expert-level knowledge in routing, switching, and Wi-Fi, combined with a customer service mindset. The role also involves participation in the NOC on-call rotation. There is tremendous opportunity for someone with the right skill set and business acumen to excel within our organization. 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Design and implement new networks in an MSP environment. 
  • Monitor the network/systems, document network events, and take corrective action in response to alarms and traps. 
  • Provide Tier-3/4 (final) escalation and troubleshooting for network outages within SLAs. 
  • Plan and implement network upgrades and maintenance windows. 
  • Mentor and train junior-level engineers. 
  • Assist the engineering group in streamlining procedures and refining SOPs. 
  • Responsible for the technical review/approval of network-level changes and implementation of the most complex changes. 
  • Provide project implementation support during business and occasionally off-business hours. 
  • Create and update network infrastructure documentation. 
  • Act as a liaison between the engineering group and client staff, both technical and non-technical personnel. 
  • Manage working relationships with other business units and maintain effective cross-functional communications. 
  • Work closely with project management staff to meet project milestones. 
  • Manage and test ILEC/CLEC circuit cut-overs and upgrades. 
  • Participate in the on-call rotation. 
  • Contribute to the overall environment and camaraderie of the group. 
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned. 
  • Resolve simple to complex network outages and service interruptions with little supervision. 
  • Provide timely and accurate ticket updates to appropriate stakeholders. 
  • Follow MAC procedures and other department SOPs. 
  • Develop and apply testing and troubleshooting plans. 
  • May require performing onsite surveys for both wired and wireless access. 
  • Physical installation of core network components (racking and stacking), configuration, turn-up, and testing. 
  • Work in a group/team setting. 

What you’ll bring:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience supporting large-scale enterprise/ISP networks in a 24/7/365 environment. 
  • Expert-level knowledge of WAN technologies such as Metro-E, MPLS, and EVPLs. 
  • Expert-level knowledge in configuring and troubleshooting routing protocols BGP, static, EIGRP, and OSPF. 
  • Strong experience supporting multi-controller enterprise Wi-Fi networks. 
  • Strong experience and knowledge of multicast routing. 
  • Strong experience and knowledge supporting Radius, DHCP, and DNS servers. 
  • Strong experience working in a Cisco switching and routing environment. 
  • Strong customer-facing skills.
