The Guidance, Navigation, Control, and Autonomy Branch of the Leidos Innovations Center provides cutting-edge navigation for customers who can’t rely on GPS alone, and we need your help in the Rocket City (Huntsville, AL).

This position offers both analytic and hands-on tasks, including development, simulation, analysis, and field testing of navigation algorithms. We perform research, development, and advanced prototyping for DARPA, NASA, Air Force Research Laboratory, Office of Naval Research, and Army Combat Capabilities Development Command engineering centers. These customers need to get our advanced technology into the field!

Please note: This position can support remote teleworking however preference will be given to candidates who are local to Huntsville, AL area to attend occasional onsite meetings as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deploy novel navigation algorithms for optimal estimation and signal processing on various computing architectures for real-time fielded execution. Emphasis on alternative navigation systems including gravity and geomagnetic correlation aiding.
  • Integrate sensors and computing platforms over various electrical interfaces (e.g. RS232, RS422, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, etc)
  • Enhance navigation software frameworks with new capabilities by supporting design, coding, and peer reviews for new software modules
  • Perform code profiling and software optimization to ensure real-time execution including use of multi-threading architectures and hardware acceleration (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.)
  • Work within a team of 3-5 engineers to test algorithms on demonstration hardware.
  • Travel with the team to demonstrate systems in real-world conditions; typically lasts 1-2 weeks and occurs 3-4 times a year.
  • Present techniques, solutions, and results to the team and to customers.

Basic Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in advanced technical field (electrical engineering, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent) and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or master’s degree with 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience programming real-time navigation software in C/C++ with additional experience in Python or MATLAB
  • Linux operating system expertise
  • Experience interfacing with navigation sensors over various interface protocols (serial, Ethernet, SPI, etc.) including time synchronization of all measurements
