Under general supervision of licensed physicians, performs and/or assists in performing all MRI examinations in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.  Sets up, adjusts, and operates CT equipment, selecting proper technical factors to obtain accurate CT studies; properly positions and immobilized patients. Responds to patients’ needs as required.  Maintains cleanliness of equipment and general working area, stocking clinical supplies.  Ensures proper operation of CT equipment.  Provides care to patients of all age groups in the form of diagnostic testing.

  • Under supervision of physicians, prepares patients and examination areas in accordance with department policies and procedures for administration, as appropriate, of all CT examinations. Sets up, cleans and adjusts CT equipment.  Observes equipment safety precautions both for equipment maintenance and patient and employee well-being.  Provides patient orientation prior to examination session.
  • Under supervision, performs or assists in performing CT’s in accordance with established clinical protocols. Positions patients in accordance with established and techniques.  Operates and adjusts equipment, determining current settings and monitoring patient and employee safety with respect to magnetic field.  Responds to patients’ needs during testing.  May assist in administering opaque media, loading power injector and handling catheters, guide wires and needles under aseptic technique.  Properly labels studies in accordance with defined procedures.  May perform specialized examinations as permitted by experience or registry.
  • Provides related support functions as required. Scheduling exams, answering telephones for area and recording messages.  Maintains clean work area and equipment and maintains full stock of applicable clinical supplies.  Properly prepares contrast media as needed.  Files film as required.
  • Ensures good working order of equipment. Troubleshoots routine equipment problems or seeks technical assistance for equipment malfunctions, keeping chief technician appropriately informed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required as professional technologist.  May assist with quality assurance/CQI tasks under supervision
  • Job requires a minimum level of knowledge ordinarily acquired through completion of an Associate’s Degree or equivalent NYS-accredited training program in radiological technology in order to learn how to conduct skeletal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and chest examinations and familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and biology. Special training may be required for certain studies. 
  • Licensure by New York State Department of Health as Radiologic Technologist is mandatory.  Certification required with ARRT (American Registry for Radiologic Technologists) for certain specialty examinations (e.g., mammography).
  • Prior work experience of six months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with administration of radiologic testing.  Should be familiar with most major models of radiological testing equipment.  New CT technicians require period of 30 days in order to orient themselves to techniques and work area.
  • Good analytical skills necessary for handling of CT patients during administration of diagnostic testing.  Must be able to appropriately assess the correct action to take during testing, while being cognizant of patient well-being.  Must accurately monitor radiation exposure or potential for electronic shock, etc.
  • Good interpersonal manner important during delivery of patient care in order to ensure harmonious provision of radiological diagnostic examination.
  • Work requires manual dexterity for use of CT and other equipment and instruments.  Light lifting of clinical supplies may be required.  Adequate physical strength required for positioning of patients and equipment during examinations.  Accurate positioning of patients is critical in order to ensure proper quality of radiological examination results and patient safety.

Compensation Statement

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $49.88 - $52.87 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
