Module Lead - Materials Science (Contract)
You will plan, design, deliver, create content and assess for Tiro’s Level 4 Applied Materials programme TAM4101, TAM4102, TAM5102 modules and plan, design and create content for our Laboratory Technician industrial technical module for materials.
The module lead should stimulate curiosity and enthusiasm for the module to provide a transformational learning experience for students.
Much of the module lead’s role is about academic leadership, organisation and management. As a module lead, you’re expected to provide an inclusive and friendly learning environment that respects individual learners and diverse learning communities.
Acknowledging the wider context in which the module operates, the module lead should work closely with Tiro’s Curriculum Lead and the Digital Education team as well as other internal teams (learning/operations) and external partners (alumni/employers/awarding bodies).
The module lead may introduce themselves as the key contact for learners on the module and will share the principles of partnership working with students; ensuring that staff and students understand each other’s roles, responsibilities and expectations.
Delivering phenomenal learning experiences
You’ll deliver a variety of specialist modules/content/materials/assessments that are learner-centric, stretching and delivered in live and asynchronous sessions via digital platforms, embedding your subject specialist knowledge to develop highly competent Scientists and Technologists.
You’ll inspire and engage learners so attendance to sessions is something to look forward to.
You’ll provide rich feedback on assessments, always making things relevant to the workplace context and experiences that champion and grow your learners’ determination to succeed – so learners know where they are and how to realise their ambitions.
Ensure learners progress through their programme
You’ll anticipate, spot and address issues/challenges to nip them in the bud to keep learners progressing with their learning. Being proactive and pacey, you’ll tenaciously drive the progress of your learners, keeping them on track to complete their learning within agreed timelines.
As you deliver a module of learning within your subject specialism, your colleagues will be coaching and supporting learners to transfer that learning back into the workplace. As such you’ll be an exceptional communicator - providing up to date reports, updating systems, and attending meetings to ensure key stakeholders can support and feedback to learners.
Core Deliverables:
Module Delivery Plan - Design robust module delivery plans, designed in accordance with approved module narratives. Ensure module delivery plans are clear and instructive
Content Creation – Design and develop subject-specific content for Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and Live Lesson Delivery that meet the learning objectives for the module
Module Meetings - Attend module meetings, cross-module meetings and assessment boards throughout the module to discuss issues of concern and disseminate items of good practice
Live Lesson Delivery – Deliver up to 10 (2 hour) Weekly Live Online Lessons per module which stimulate curiosity and enthusiasm, creating an inclusive and friendly environment
Assessment Marking - Ensure module assessments are marked and returned to learners in accordance with Tiro’s Assessment Policy and Tiro’s Moderation Process. Turn around assignments within a week
Learner Feedback - Ensure high quality, appropriate and timely feedback to learners on their assessments and questions
You've done the job and got the t-shirt – with a degree qualification or higher in the field of Materials Science or equivalent.
You’ll love using your expertise to deliver training to develop and impart knowledge to others, with maximum learning transfer back into the workplace. Your specialty is turning complex information into ‘lightbulb’ moments. You’ll thrive on engaging and inspiring people with your ability to communicate and relate to others.
You’ll be a catalyst for growth by not shying away from sharing feedback and addressing challenges.
As a self-starter, you’ll be trusted to work autonomously to deliver on your agreed schedule of work. You’ll love to follow a process and utilise our systems to ensure you’re operating in-line with Tiro’s policies and procedures so every learner has the same exceptional experience.
With excellent organisation and prioritisation skills you’ll keep to deadlines for delivering assessment marking and feedback to your learners who’ll be eagerly awaiting their results. You'll be suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults.
You'll be suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults.
Even if this doesn’t sound quite like you, but you still think you could do a great job in the role, get in touch. We have loads of examples of colleagues at Tiro who've come from outside of the apprenticeship industry and are absolutely smashing it! As such, we’re always open to wildcards. If you're an industry pro and have never done this exact role before BUT you have an obsession for developing others - we want to hear from you, as we'll train you up! We’re not just interested in experience and qualifications, we’re looking for someone with the right attitude and aptitude to fit right in at Tiro. Someone who knows their own mind and isn’t afraid to have a strong opinion. Someone that likes to work under their own steam and doesn’t want or need to be micromanaged. Who gets a thrill from helping some of Britain’s best businesses grow. And who’s genuinely curious about the worlds of science and technology. You’ll give the role your all, be unafraid to take the odd calculated risk, and will fundamentally challenge us, because if you don’t change Tiro, you can’t succeed.

About Tiro
Tiro is a leading training provider for science and technology apprenticeships. We’ve been helping hungry apprentices to join ambitious businesses since 2005. At Tiro, we really believe that great apprenticeships help everyone. Because there are remarkable apprentices out there just waiting to be found, and fantastic employment opportunities waiting to be filled. But our work will never be just about getting bums on seats and pocketing our commission. In our own small way, we’re helping to change the world – finding people that are working on COVID vaccines, finding new ways for technology to help humanity and helping to tackle the big issues of the day, like climate change. We’re proud to be playing our part in making that happen, and we’re looking for more like-minded people to join team Tiro.About you
