Overview
Position Summary:The primary job function is to manage a team responsible for mining complex and unstructured data sets using advanced statistical methods for use in data-driven decision making.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:- Guides research, analysis, and modeling on organizational data.
- Leads data scientist team, providing expertise on various business issues and providing solutions.
- Oversees development and application of algorithms or models to key business metrics with the goal of improving operations or answering business questions.
- Identifies projects or initiatives that could benefit from a quantitative review.
- Provides recommendations to decision-makers based on research findings.
- Other functions may be assigned
Qualifications
Education:- Bachelor’s degree. Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, applied math, or related field required.
- Advanced degree (or ACAS/FCAS credentials) preferred.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in data mining and data/statistical analysis.
- At least 5 years experience with SQL and statistical software packages (Python, R, SAS) required.
- At least 5 years experience working as a data scientist or similar role, with a proven track record in data processing, predictive modeling, and machine learning techniques
- At least 2 years experience in P&C insurance
- At least 2 years experience managing a team of data scientists, data analysts, or data engineers (or proven track record in leading projects in group settings and mentoring peers or interns).
Knowledge and Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the field’s concepts and principles. Performs complex tasks typically following established processes. Leads and directs the work of other employees and has full authority for personnel decisions. Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures but may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change.
- Ability to foster teamwork. Ability to develop and mentor others. Management skills. Oral and written communication skills.
- Problem/situation analysis. Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills. Analytical thinking skills. Statistical knowledge. Technical expertise. Mathematical skills.
