Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to lead teams to create safe and highly reliable medication-use processes throughout the enterprise. The person in this role will identify and lead evidence-based medication safety initiatives, establish processes for event review, and proactive medication event prevention across the care continuum. This position requires a leader who is able to establish and maintain strong relationships within Pharmacy Services, Clinical Excellence, and across disciplines to lead advocacy and champion the safe use of medications.

This is a fully remote position located within the Peaks, Canyons, or Desert regions. 

Essential Functions

  • Serves as the enterprise medication safety pharmacist expert and leads the development of the organization’s strategy to ensure safe medication use processes.
  • Leads the Enterprise Medication Safety Team with Clinical Excellence and Nursing.
  • Works closely with Clinical Excellence, Nursing, and other leaders to ensure there is coordination across disciplines in this highly matrixed position.
  • Promotes medication error and adverse drug event reporting and a culture of safety for reporting and investigations utilizing data-driven performance improvement methodologies and tools to develop recommendations.
  • Engages with other organizational leaders to identify opportunities for proactive change in the medication-use system.
  • Participates in efforts to optimize technology systems to ensure safe use of medications, including the electronic health record and smart infusion pumps.
  • Partners with clinical and operational leaders to review medications errors and adverse drug events relevant to their areas of expertise.
  • Collaborates with leaders from across the organization to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and organizational regulations and policies related to medication-use safety, as well as with the standards of accreditation organizations.
  • Participates in the development of system policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to medication safety, medication management, and formulary management.
  • Establishes relationships with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and supports them in their functional roles to create a culture to maintain and continually improve medication safety.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution (education verified).
  • License to practice pharmacy in a state in which Intermountain Health operates or eligibility to obtain a license upon hire.
  • Completion of a PGY1 residency OR equivalent pharmacy practice experience supporting medication safety activities.
  • Experience in a clinical pharmacy role, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Effective communication, people management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to effectively interpret and use data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of additional medication safety training.
  • Master of Business Administration or Master of Healthcare Administration.
  • Previous experience working in an integrated healthcare delivery system.
  • Previous leadership experience.

  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate supplies and equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$68.62 - $100.82
