Media Analytics Monetization Strategist

The Platform Monetization Strategist, On-Network Lead will be the strategic lead for McClatchy platform revenue initiatives and sales opportunities; providing guidance, subject matter expertise, and revenue-driving strategy to McClatchy’s internal teams, vertical teams,  partners, and vendors. This role will lead the development and execution of revenue initiatives and sales mastery for McClatchy’s portfolio of sites, newsletters, podcasts, social assets, e-edition solutions and all other platform-centric revenue opportunities that exist today and may come into existence as we continue to evolve our business and revenue models.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is between $85k and $90k annually. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, department equity, training, geography, and local wage and hours laws.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • O&O
    • Act as the subject matter expert on all platforms used to monetize our on-network advertising channels; inclusive of but not limited to our portfolio of sites, newsletters, podcasts, audio players, and e-edition outlets
    • Be the go-to expert and liaison between the Digital Performance and Sales teams to support the growth of On-Network revenue and mastery of our portfolio of digital assets
    • Execute on scaling institutional knowledge of our O&O platforms across the McClatchy Advertising division; training on features and functionality; developing ongoing curriculum focused on advanced utilization of the platforms for monetization and campaign execution
    • Direct cross-team and cross-departmental adoption of process, best practices, and strategies to continually improve efficiency, opportunity, and activation of revenue
    • Be the primary evangelist of our properties and the power they harness for our Advertising customers
    • Collaborate with Newsroom, Marketing, and other internal departments to build and deploy new and innovative revenue opportunities
    • Conceptualize and bring to market new and innovative ways to monetize our inventory across owned and operated channels; inclusive of but not limited to on-site advertising, newsletters, and on-site native advertising
    • Lead the charge on developing AI-driven solutions and automated workflows
  • Audience and Audience Analytics
    • Create and execute strategies that leverage data storytelling to enhance the monetization of McClatchy audiences, including subscribers, visitors, and social media followers. Utilize analytics platforms to craft compelling narratives that drive engagement and revenue growth.
    • Design and deploy innovative methods to target and engage audiences across various platforms, partnerships, and advertising channels. Focus on data-driven insights to drive audience actions and enhance monetization efforts.
    • Lead the advanced utilization of audience analytics tools within the Advertising Division. Continuously identify opportunities for revenue growth and retention by leveraging data insights to strengthen community engagement and monetization.
    • Establish and refine processes and procedures that enable seamless integration of audience data into various inventory types. Ensure that McClatchy can effectively utilize audience insights both within and beyond its content ecosystem to maximize revenue opportunities.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Lean-forward, performance-marketing mindset, a clear POV on what is needed to drive performance, and a foresite for what’s ahead in the marketing and media industry
  • Expert knowledge of the following disciplines: Search Engine Marketing, PLA/Shopping Campaigns, Programmatic Display, Programmatic Video, OTT/CTV, Geofence Advertising, Native Advertising, and Paid Social Media Advertising
  • Advanced knowledge of and ability to quickly and effectively calculate and analyze cost-driven KPI inclusive of CPC, CPM, CPA, CPP, CPS, ROI, ROAS, LTV, and others
  • Ability to prioritize and to work under and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, data-driven work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and team player skills. Excellent communication and active listening skills  
  • Ability to interact professionally and build relationships with internal and external teams, vendors, partners, and resources
  • Superior written, verbal, and illustrative communication skills
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office, Google Workspace, etc.)
  • Must be able to work remotely while contributing to a team environment
  • Self-driven, focused, and ability to work with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred, or the equivalent education, experience, skills and knowledge needed to do the job. 
  • 7+ years of related marketing and advertising strategy, fulfillment, and execution experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven ability to manage a large workload focused on day-to-day deliverables, prioritization, task management, and working across various teams and individuals in a fast-paced revenue environment.

Desired qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of SSP and DSP platforms with a focus on GAM and other self-serve DSP and SSP platforms
  • Experience in DCM and with ad tags
  • Experience building, managing, and optimizing campaigns on various advertising platforms
  • Experience building, managing, and optimizing campaigns on publisher platforms
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with sales professionals, clients, and 3rd party vendors via phone call or video conferencing
  • Experience building, managing, and/or optimizing programmatic display, video, OTT/CTV campaigns using a demand-side platform
  • Experience building, managing, and/or optimizing geofence advertising campaigns
  • Experience utilizing data management platforms and tools to target 0P, 1P, and 3P audience segments
  • Hands-on experience following an order entry, submission, QA, and completion process
  • Experience managing, communicating with, and executing digital marketing campaigns through third-party vendors and partners
  • Track record of managing a high volume of requests, clients, and digital marketing campaigns with high accuracy and low error rates
  • Ability to communicate complex insights and ideas effectively and in an action-oriented manner to various internal and external resources
