We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Research & Development team based in Craven Arms, near Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and expanding team taking Agilent's world-leading liquid chromatography products from the drawing board to the real world.

Working on site at Agilent’s Dissolution Centre of Excellence, within the R&D team, you will have the ability to make a real difference to Agilent’s chromatography and dissolution businesses.  As an organisation we embrace Agile methodologies making for an engaging and rewarding mix of technological discovery, product development, and employee growth and development.

You will be working as part of a multi-discipline, cross-functional team and your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing mechanical designs for next-generation laboratory detectors and instrumentation
  • Coordinating and building prototypes to demonstrate proof-of-concept and feasibility.
  • Creating and reviewing technical drawings and managing bill of materials. 
  • Working with suppliers on the design and purchase of parts.
  • Leading and contributing to technical design reviews as part of Agilent’s product lifecycle process.
  • Close collaboration with Marketing, QA and Manufacturing during the development lifecycle to ensure product designs meet customer requirements.
  • Troubleshooting and analysing technical issues in-depth to understand core problems and provide sound solutions.

Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated individual with the following background:

  • University Degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Proficient relevant experience in designing, building, and testing new products in an R&D environment using relevant industry and engineering standards.
  • Proficiency with 3D parametric CAD modeling software, preferably Siemens Nx CAD
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and FMEA principles would be preferred.
  • Experience in designing optical systems would be an advantage.
  • Project management experience would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of Agilent’s LC or Dissolution instrumentation would be a strong plus.

The full-time equivalent pay range for this position is $136.752,00 - $213.675,00/yr plus eligibility for bonus, stock and benefits. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
