Position Title: Marketing and Events Specialist – Northern Colorado
Reports to: Director of Philanthropy – Northern Colorado
Job Classification: Full-time; Non-exempt
Salary Range: $24.04 - $30.05 per hour

At multiple locations throughout our community, we help restore the lives of people experiencing homelessness and addiction through emergency services, rehabilitation, transitional programs, and community outreach.
The Opportunity:
The Marketing and Events Specialist will be responsible for writing, editing, photographing, and driving content strategies in Northern Colorado for print publications aimed at informing, inspiring and educating the Mission’s network of constituents and the public at-large. This position will lead and be responsible for writing and editing a variety of materials such as fact sheets, newsletters, annual reports, digital content, blog posts, brochures, and one-page documents. This role will assist in the management of the design and production of written and audiovisual materials and will work with freelance videographers, in-house graphic designers and other vendors and staff, as required. This position is part of the Development team and will work closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager, Director of Marketing & Communications, and Graphic Design team on a variety of strategic marketing and storytelling initiatives in addition to working closely with the Northern Colorado extension of the Development team and leadership.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
WRITING AND EDITING:
- Research, conceptualize, photograph, and write copy for a six-page quarterly newsletter that is distributed to between 1,000 and 5,000 donors per month, as well as a Year in Review, and the Annual Report.
- Adhere to strict deadlines and help maintain the editorial calendar and production schedules by tracking content through the editorial process. Facilitate internal proofreading process for monthly newsletters and make strategic decisions on suggested changes.
- Support Relational Giving team on development and fundraising copy assignments as needed.
- Produce interesting, educational copy for Mission brochures, flyers, and cards.
- Generate informative and persuasive copy for in-house direct mail appeals to meet fundraising goals.
- Provide editorial advisement for Mission print materials and websites to ensure brand identity, consistent messaging and language, creativity, and accuracy.
- Maintain and uphold the Mission’s editorial policies.
- Maintain summaries for monthly newsletter content and effectiveness.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Marketing & Communications Manager & Director of Philanthropy.
CONDUCT INTERVIEWS AND RESEARCH:
- Work with staff and conduct research to gather pertinent information and statistics to support copy, and check facts. Schedule and conduct interviews with Mission staff, program participants, guests, donors, leadership, and volunteers to drive content and storytelling.
- Transcribe interviews and produce simple, direct, and persuasive copies that inspires action and meets fundraising goals.
COLLABORATE:
- Collaborate with and provide concept advisement to Graphic Design team.
- Collaborate with team members and other Mission staff to provide the best possible photos and copy concepts to encourage integration.
- Participate in and facilitate brainstorming sessions with the Marketing & Communications and Development teams.
- Assist Marketing & Communications Manager in developing video marketing strategies and provide video edits.
- Coordinate with and oversee freelance videographer assignments and manage overall production schedule of video content.
- Collaborate with the Online Marketing Manager to write a copy and take photos for Fort Collins Rescue Mission and Harvest Farm’s websites.
PHOTOGRAPHY:
- Photograph Mission program participants, people experiencing homelessness, events, volunteers, donors, and other groups to drive content and share Mission stories.
- Maintain photo releases and organize photo files.
DEVELOP CONTENT STRATEGIES:
- Develop strategies and produce content for a variety of different mediums.
- Analyze creative and copy results against the strategy.
- Recommend strategy changes to the Marketing & Communications Manager to improve overall effectiveness.
EVENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
PLAN & EXECUTION:
- Lead, plan, and execute all small and large-scale events in Northern Colorado.
- Implement and supervise special events staged and produced with specific intent and audience. This will include planning, implementing and supervising all assigned special events such as donor stewardship/relationship-building, guest-facing banquets events, creating and managing event budgets; planning event schedules managing calendars and deadlines.
LOGISTICS:
- Develop and work with Director of Philanthropy to plan task assignments, staffing needs, volunteer recruitment.
- Work closely with communications & development staff for messaging, writing marketing events and recruiting event participants.
- Monitor registrations and planning progress; coordinate mass mailings in conjunction with communications staff; arrange event logistics (facilities, meeting rooms, routes, support sites, etc.).
EVENT SUPERVISION:
- Supervise event staff (staff and volunteers) at actual events, collection of fund, gift(s).
- Event follow-up correspondence (thank you notes, pledge reminders, etc.).
- Event set-up, event clean-up, implement risk management and crisis management procedures, transportation of event materials, and supervision of event logistics.
CORPORATE RELATIONS SPONSORS:
- Responsible for sponsorship in outlying areas in a manner consistent with policies, goals and objectives.
- Work closely with the Director of Philanthropy to achieve intended goals.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimal Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, English or a related field.
- One year of related work experience, including event execution.
- A combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Writing proficiency – ability to write and edit with speed and accuracy, displaying a strong knowledge of English grammar and the ability to create clear, engaging, and informative text.
- Organizational skills – highly organized and efficient to maintain editorial calendars and ensure that work is submitted on time.
- Design and layout skills – sourcing, editing, and organizing photos as necessary and ensuring they are properly laid out.
- Capable of easily shooting high quality photos of the Mission’s program participants, guests experiencing homelessness, volunteers, donors, and other constituents.
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Windows, proficiency in Microsoft Word and utilizing search engines to conduct research.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with Mission team members, listen to and gather stories from program participants and guests, and communicate well with all levels of the organization.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects at once.
- Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Lightroom.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Marketing knowledge – an understanding of how to market content; familiar with nonprofit industry trends and using the appropriate strategies to draw in donors.
- Strong interpersonal skills, open to new ideas and consistently display a positive attitude.
- A strong eye for detail and presenting visual material.
- Familiar with editing and print production processes.
- Familiar with Adobe InDesign, WordPress, and basic SEO/SEM strategies.
- Strategic and creative thinker.
- Thrives in a culture of accountability, high-performance and measurable results.
- Active Driver’s License as a limited amount of work-related travel may be required.
*NOTE: This position is currently fully remote. However, it will transition to a hybrid or on-site model when office space becomes available. Therefore, we are looking for a candidate who resides in Northern Colorado!
