Description
Under the general direction of the Director of Marketing, the Marketing Assistant is responsible for assisting with social media content creation and support for UW Bothell's primary social media accounts. The student assistant will work closely with colleagues within the UW Bothell Office of Marketing & Communications.
Examples of tasks for this role include helping to develop and post engaging content across social media platforms, creating graphics and videos tailored to our audience, researching and staying up to date on social media best practices, monitoring analytics for performance insights, and resizing images for optimal display. Additional tasks may involve responding to basic inquiries on social media channels, organizing media assets, and supporting special social media campaigns and initiatives as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Escalate technical issues as appropriate following established procedures.
- Assist with graphic creation and video editing for the University of Washington Bothell social media accounts (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X).
- Organize, prepare, produce, and post content for the University of Washington Bothell social media accounts.
- Review, recommend and implement social media best practices for the UW Bothell social media accounts
- Utilizes superior customer service skills via written communication
- Review and update branding, accessibility and website documentation as assigned
- Maintain general knowledge of supported platforms and utilize downtime to improve skills or complete special projects.
- Assist with managing the office email inbox; providing accurate and timely logging of questions, requests and resolutions through the Asana project-tracking tool.
- Complete other tasks and projects as assigned
PAY
This position pays $19.97 an hour.
HOURS
- Minimum 12 hours per week with potential for 19.5 hours max during the academic quarter.
- Create your own schedule (shifts are Monday - Friday, cannot start earlier than 9 A.M. and will end by 5 P.M.)
- Shift requests must meet the expectations laid out in training documentation covered upon hire.
- Our office is open during interim breaks but hours vary according to work load.
- Shifts are approved by the student's supervisor.
- Some shifts are remote but students must be able to come to campus and work in person as needed, sometimes with short notice.
- This position may be asked to work events (commencement, W Day, etc.) as their schedule allows.
REQUIREMENTS
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credits during quarters of employment, Graduate students at least 4 credits.
- Training requirement: All new student employees must also complete UW's online Title IX course about preventing and responding to sex-and gender-based violence and harassment upon hire.

- Solid written communication skills, including grammar, spelling and formatting proficiency.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; adaptable and open to learning new tools and techniques quickly.
- Consistent punctuality and reliable attendance.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team, balancing collaborative projects with self-guided tasks.
DESIRED SKILLS
- Passion for digital marketing and media communication
- Passion to learn about social media content generation best practices, platform maintenance and reporting
- Passion for user experience and an understanding of its value to website design and development
- Prior experience in a customer service position
- Prior social media management experience
- Proficient in using Photoshop (or similar software) and Microsoft Office
- Experience writing for social media
- Operating system experience: Windows10 or Mac
- Additional digital marketing skills (video editing with Final Cut Pro, photography, etc.)
