The Market Manager is responsible for meeting and exceeding company objectives and sales goals within the Sacramento Valley territory, which includes Lake Tahoe and Fresno. This role works in both On- and Off-Premise channels, driving sales growth through the execution of strategic objectives, collaborating with distributors, and managing key accounts. Long-term brand-building will be a key initiative for this role. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute sales strategies and objectives set by the Regional Manager to drive market growth
  • Partner with distributors to develop sales plans, train and educate distributor teams, support sales efforts to key accounts, and lead wine tastings and events
  • Monitor and report distributor performance against agreed-upon goals, ensuring effective program execution
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly planning meetings with distributor management at all levels
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with top accounts to enhance brand presence and sales
  • Provide recommendations for incentives, trade marketing initiatives, and other strategies to enhance street-level execution
  • Participate in company and sales team meetings and collaborate with the National Accounts On-Premise team
  • Oversee brand and travel & entertainment (T&E) budgets; ensure pricing strategies align with market opportunities and company profitability.
  • Work closely with the Regional Manager to develop state-level sales strategies while maintaining brand and regulatory standards
  • Spend approximately 80% of time on field sales efforts (independent and distributor-supported) and 20% on administrative tasks, including planning, budgeting, presentations, and follow-ups.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of wine industry or consumer products industry sales experience
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, auto insurance coverage, and personal vehicle
  • Must reside within the covered territory

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Distributors, Accounts, and all internal stakeholders
  • Coaching and sales training skills, including a genuine and persuasive presence to influence decision-makers 
  • Strong understanding of wine production, wine styles, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and oral communication, including listening skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and complete assignments accurately and within established time frames

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following: 

  • Requires approximately 30% travel.
  • Ability to sit, walk, or stand for long periods
  • Extensive computer usage for administrative work
  • Ability to lift to 60 pounds
  • Perform some repetitive motion activities
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Required to talk and listen
  • May need to determine color, smell, and taste of wine using eyes, nose, and tongue

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This is a remote position which requires working from home
  • Regularly travel via car to meetings and site visits
  • May be exposed to weather-related temperatures
