The Managing Director, Evaluation leads development and implementation of health-related program evaluation methodologies, analytics standards, and reporting protocols for the implementation science vertical and provides cross-pillar consultation for the domestic and global portfolio of studies, projects, programs, and initiatives led by the American Cancer Society’s Patient Support Pillar. This position is accountable for ensuring application of practical but rigorous qualitative and quantitative evaluation methodologies as well as technically sound data interpretation and analysis practices. The Managing Director, Evaluation, is charged with achieving Pillar-wide standardization of best-in-class processes & practices related to program evaluation and analysis, coordinating closely with Data & Impact Reporting team leaders responsible for the Patient Support Pillar internal data functions and centralized data governance function. Finally, this position is expected to provide the leadership and technical skills to develop or oversee development of highest-quality communication products (e.g., evaluation reports), in addition to high-impact external (peer-reviewed) publications and presentations.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly lead team of six (6) evaluation staff, and serve as primary technical expert to program and study leads across Patient Support Pillar verticals

  • Oversee development and implementation of all study evaluation plans, providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure consistent methodological rigor and appropriate selection and refinement of study measures

  • Provide oversight of and facilitate skill development for highest-quality program plan documentation, including detailed background, critical evaluation questions, evaluation methods, findings, and recommendations

  • Ensure efficient operations of evaluation functions in each program area, and provide clear, accurate and explicit feedback based on evaluation results and observations

  • Oversee development and implementation of all types of data collection plans (using quantitative and qualitative methods) that secure buy-in from all key stakeholders and optimize information flow and reporting capabilities

  • Lead development of all program-related communication products including literature reviews, standard and ad-hoc reports and recommendations, needs assessments, and environmental scans
