Manager, Software Engineering - US CA Remote

Ready to be a Titan?

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who will help us lead a team within the engineering organization at ServiceTitan. We need thoughtful, proactive leaders who support their teams, encourage growth, and drive accountability through results. We also desire those who can balance rapid iteration and development with high product quality expectations and who are innovative and comfortable with ambiguity.

What you'll do:

You will be working on the mission-critical internal tools and Platform that a number of other engineering teams and other internal teams are using on a daily basis. This Platform is in the core of the integrated multi-application suite of the ServiceTitan products.

Accounts provisioning and lifecycle, centralized accounts provisioning and management, configuration management, federation platform for the distributed data import, data validation, integration with external services - these are only some of the components that you will be working on.

You will be working in a cross-functional distributed fully remote team. You will collaborate closely with other teams in the R&D organization (e.g. Cyber Security) as well with other product development teams in the company since they are our primary clients and stakeholders.

The nature of the tasks you will be working on is varied because we own the solutions end-to-end. One month you may be working on the brand-new service or tool, another on untangling legacy dependencies, and later on identifying and closing security concerns. On the technical side this means working with a variety of different services and technologies: backend services optimization (resources usage optimization, caching, etc), designing API, building an event-based  distributed architecture, creating user facing components end-to-end with the UI. In some cases the solution may be on the processes side rather than technical.

You will:

  • Take end to end ownership of team(s) projects

  • Mentor and guide engineers within your team(s) and occasionally cross team

  • Help your team to improve their performance, the quality of their work; make major design decisions

  • Work closely with Recruiting — in particular, interview candidates and co-own activities related to lead generation (e.g. tech talks and blog posts) and screening (HackerRank tests)

  • Communicate effectively with developers, product managers, customers, partners, and other leaders.

What you'll bring:

It is all about efficiency. You should be passionate about improving processes optimization both on the technical side (performance, scalability) and by optimizing the workflows. We do not require you to have any special knowledge, we expect you to be able to holistically assess the issue, propose technical solution, and implement it. Since most of our stakeholders are internal users you will have all the tools to close the feedback loop fast.

You will be working with systems rather than some particular components so you should know how to work with the complex systems and should have hands-on experience with the distributed services architecture.

In addition to that, we also expect Engineering Managers at ServiceTitan to have:

  • 2+ years of experience in managing a small to medium software development teams

  • 8+ years of experience on senior engineering roles (designing APIs, abstractions, and tools used by other engineers)

  • Expert-level knowledge of:

    • Microsoft .NET technology stack (C# / .NET, ASP.NET MVC, Web APIs) and SQL databases (Microsoft SQL Server or any other)

    • HTML5 and JavaScript; experience such front-end frameworks as React

    • Git, unit testing, debugging, profiling, performance monitoring

  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
