The Zillow Rich Media AI - Customer Media Experiences (CMX) team is re-imagining the home tour experience, giving people the feeling of being there from the convenience of their phones or computers. Using groundbreaking technologies, the Rich Media AI team works across product, research, engineering, and business to enable people to walk through a home.

The Customer Media Experiences team builds innovative and delightful solutions for the advanced shopping experiences for our home shoppers and real estate agents. The solutions are facets of Zillow’s website, iPhones, and Androids, the #1 real estate applications in their stores. Our passion for building the best native mobile experiences for buyers, renters, and homeowners with innovative technologies shows!

About the role

As an engineering manager in the Rich Media AI team, you will oversee the end-to-end software feature lifecycle and contribute code alongside the team's developers. Your team will ship updates frequently and keep a laser focus on highly available and high-quality services to support all platforms frontend of Zillow Showcase. You will have accountability for the efficiency and effectiveness of the team and positioning them to thrive. You will be encouraged to think creatively and challenge established expectations by building on what we already have and developing new insights that fuel innovation and creativity!

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $170,900.00 - $273,100.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Managing a team of 5 software engineers

  • Collaborating with product managers, UX designers, technical product managers, and multi-functional teams

  • Growing the team through mentorship and hiring

  • Leading the team through code, architecture, and design for backend services written in Go, Python, Java, and NodeJS

  • Leading test automation strategy and executions that impact multiple AI Initiatives 

  • Being accountable for delivering high-quality product services and values through the team

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of people management skills with directly managing software engineers with multi-disciplinary (full-stack, backend, quality)

  • 3+ years of proven successful record of team execution by estimating engineering effort and building the roadmap

  • 5+ years of software engineer experience, preferably backend services with AWS, GraphQL, Redis/Valkey, Kafka, Kubernetes, etc, for supporting web clients and mobile clients

  • 3+ years of knowledge or experience in developing testing strategies & test automation for web and mobile products 

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience with CICD 

  • 3+ years of working experience directly with product managers, UX designers and/or UX researchers

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree with a preference for Computer Science degree

  • Experience partnering with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders

  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and growing high-performing engineering teams
