Job Description:

The Risk Management Centre of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic business partner supporting Canadian & Business Unit (BU) leadership in meeting our Client for Life goals by providing comprehensive understanding of risk & compliance, contributing innovative solutions to manage risk and effective risk oversight.

As Manager, Regulatory Risk, you will manage new and emerging regulatory requirements across SL’s Canadian BUs. You will identify opportunities to deliver Client-focused, OneSun solutions that align with BU key objectives, while ensuring Sun Life remains compliant with regulatory requirements. You will offer key expertise and consultation to first line of defence on effective regulatory controls and programs.

What will you do: 

Regulatory Change

  • Manage the intake, impact assessment and action planning of cross-BU regulatory changes to ensure SL remains compliant with regulatory expectations
  • Synthesize compliance requirements into business expectations and advise first line of defence on how to meet new or changed regulatory requirements  
  • Identify and drive forward opportunities for One Sun solution design and delivery on regulatory changes that impact multiple BUs
  • Manage and chair regulatory change forums to enable first line of defence awareness, ownership and delivery on regulatory requirements
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with partners in Risk CoE, first line of defence and Compliance
  • Prepare regular reporting on regulatory change status and risks

Regulatory Risk Programs

  • Provide guidance to first line of defence and lead regulatory changes on assigned programs
  • Lead issue management process on assigned cross-BU Issues including intake, impact assessment and action planning
  • Lead or oversee risk assessments and regulator requests on assigned programs

What you need to Succeed:

  • Experience in wealth and/or insurance businesses
  • Experience in regulatory risk management or related functions (e.g. operational controls, Risk, Compliance, Audit)
  • Experience working and delivering in cross-functional/matrixed organizations
  • University degree or equivalent
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position reports to a unilingual English-speaking manager outside Quebec.

Preferred skills:

  • Ability to distill complex requirements without oversimplifying or missing critical components
  • Ability to articulate complex ideas and deliver clear, concise and impactful messaging
  • Ability to structure problem solving, including facilitating in a group
  • Strong partnering and influencing capabilities
  • Experience in managing change in a cross-functional environment
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with various levels of leadership
  • Excellent English language written and verbal communication
  • Ability to manage various activities concurrently, prioritize initiatives, and execute effectively
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint skills. Experience with Archer is an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
