Overview

The goal of this position is to implement the necessary Industrial Hygiene (IH) programs and management systems to drive improved safety and IH performance across the Pactiv Evergreen (PTVE) organization.  This will include the development and implementation of IH programs, processes and policies that meet compliance and enhance the health and safety culture at all levels of the organization.  This leader will be expected to drive change and drive strategic IH initiatives across all business units to support the implementation of a “Zero Harm” culture.

Responsibilities: 

  • Drive the strategic direction of the PTVE Industrial Hygiene (IH) Program including ownership of annual IH plan, continuous improvement initiatives, solutions and accountable for results.
  • Work closely with the Directors of EHS, Regional EHS Leads, Human Resource Directors, Site Leaders and Corporate Business Unit Managers to cultivate a “Zero Harm” Safety Culture across PTVE.
  • Develop and Implement IH processes and programs to support overall Business goals of 100% compliance within IH, reduced exposures/injuries and improved worker health and safety.
  • Implement a regular meeting cadence and communications/trainings with Business Unit leaders, Site Operation Teams, HR and EHS leaders to drive education and support for the IH programs.
  • Develop and implement an IH data management strategy utilizing the Corporate EHS data management tools (Benchmark Gensuite) focused on statistical analysis of data to determine compliance and drive worker health and safety initiatives.
  • Responsible for managing IH related vendors (i.e., consultants) and managing the IH budget to ensure program costs are within budget.  Implement cost savings projects each year.
  • Responsible for the implementation and results of the corporate IH programs such as Hearing Conservation, Exposure Monitoring, Heat Stress, Radiation, Non-Ionizing Radiation (Lasers), Medical Surveillance, First Responders, Ergonomics, etc.  Manage and report on both leading and lagging indicators for these programs across the PTVE organization
  • Responsible for the management and results of the Hearing Conservation Program across PTVE.  Ensure 100% compliance with annual testing requirements, with recordability logging, employee training and documentation.  Provide monthly data and status reports. Review IH noise exposure data to assist sites in determining who must participate in the program.  Reduce the number of employees in this program YOY to achieve a targeted reduction.
  • Implement an Ergonomics program across all PTVE locations that includes site level Ergonomic teams, employee training, standardized ergonomic assessment tool, risk assessments, approval of ergonomic improvement projects and tracking improvement actions to closure.
  • Assist the Director EHS and Workers Compensation team with the oversight of the injury prevention programs related to 24/7 vendor triage services and MSDs (muscular skeletal disorders).  Provide oversight of the on-site Athletic Trainer team to align their work scope and standardize data reports to capture results. 
  • Create and implement effective IH metrics to track progress, identify areas of concern and drive accountability by all employees.  Utilize EHS MS tool (i.e., GenSuite) to enter, manage, track and trend IH data. Communicate metric results monthly and quarterly to the Director EHS and others as requested.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time to PTVE site locations to provide on-site IH support, ergonomic assessments, training and audits of IH programs.  Develop trip reports and action plans within GenSuite with each location to close gaps within their IH programs. 

 

 

 

Reporting Relationship:

The Industrial Hygiene Manager will report to the Director of EHS – Industrial Hygiene

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree at a minimum in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
  • Up to 50% travel required
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or eligible to sit for the exam within 1-2 years is preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is a plus
  • Certified in Ergonomic Assessments, lasers and radiation sources
  • 5+ years as an Industrial Hygienist within manufacturing operations or IH program management at a Plant or Corporate level.
  • Experience developing IH exposure monitoring plans, conducting sampling and developing written reports of sampling events
  • Strong organizational skills to include: project management tracking, coordination of IH related activities across multiple programs, effective reporting of status and results to the Director of EHS and Operational Leadership.
  • Experience working across multiple locations at one time and ability to travel up to 50%
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel, PowerPoint, Word.  Must be experienced and competent in data management tools/pivot tables within Excel, GenSuite, and vendor databases. 
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal), team building and demonstrated leadership skills and presentation skills with all levels in the organization.

Pactiv Evergreen is required by laws in many locations to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The compensation range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Pactiv Evergreen, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $83,400 - $139,000.
