Manager - Gift Sales

Do you love books and have great sales skills?! Sourcebooks is currently seeking an analytically minded and self-motivated Manager, Gift Sales. This role requires an experienced, knowledgeable account manager with strong communication and organization skills. We expect this position to increase revenue within existing accounts and to aggressively grow our account base by customizing our sales efforts and product mix to meet the needs of new accounts.
This position can be hybrid in Naperville or NYC, or fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, LA, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI.
The annual salary range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000 (salary to commensurate with experience).
Responsible for managing a team of over 90 commission sales representatives who focus on selling books and publishing products to non-traditional book retailers—gift shops, department stores, specialty boutiques, and museums. This role is all about identifying opportunities, building relationships with reps and buyers, and strategically positioning titles that align with customer preferences and seasonal trends to maximize sales.
Manager, Gift Sales Key Responsibilities
- Guide and motivate a team of gift sales reps by setting clear goals, providing coaching, and ensuring strong sales performance.
- Serve as the main point of contact for gift reps, ensuring they have the tools and strategies needed to succeed.
- Manage daily follow-up and correspondence with commission rep groups to provide ongoing support and updates.
- Build and maintain relationships with key buyers and decision-makers, understanding their merchandising needs and preferences.
- dentify high-potential accounts and develop tailored sales strategies to expand our reach within the gift market.
- Troubleshoot account issues as they arise, ensuring smooth operations and strong rep and customer relationships.
- Curate and present the titles in a way that resonates with gift reps and retailers, emphasizing gift market bestsellers and trends.
- Oversee the preparation of two seasonal gift rep presentations to support sales efforts.
- Manage the creation of sell sheets and promotions tailored for gift reps.
- Gather, organize, and assist in making strategic determinations about the content in the Sourcebooks Gift Catalog to maximize effectiveness.
- Track sales performance and provide manager with regular updates and insights.
- Manage the set-up of gift shows and represent the company at shows to strengthen relationships and secure new business.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5 years of sales experience, ideally 2–3 years in special markets at a publishing house.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues across all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and drive results independently.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with departmental sales coordinator.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, including rep and vendor portals, as well as in-house reporting tools
- Willingness to travel for trade shows and client meetings.
