The Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), is a key member of our finance team, playing a pivotal role in shaping BlueShore Financial’s financial strategy. This position oversees budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and management reporting for BlueShore Financial and its subsidiaries. It also supports data-driven decision-making by forecasting and analyzing business results. The role also provides leadership and mentorship to direct reports and fosters strong relationships with both internal colleagues and external stakeholders. This position will provide a flexible hybrid schedule (not fully remote), with approximately one to two days a week in our corporate office in North Vancouver. You will be required to be onsite for critical meetings and flexible for increased frequency during annual peak periods.

Key responsibilities of this role are:                                            

  • Responsible for analyzing, forecasting, budgeting and reporting on the financial and business performance of BlueShore Financial and its subsidiaries, supporting the Director, FP&A and VP Finance by providing recommendations for improved performance
  • Working closely with the Director, FP&A and VP Finance and in conjunction with the FP&A team, develops the annual budget, aligning BlueShore’s financial projections with its strategic goals. Assists department managers with their budget process as required. Responsible for ensuring that the FP&A team maintains accurate data (budget and actual), manages budget models, and maintains working papers within BlueShore’s FP&A software (Vena)
  • Working closely with the Director, FP&A, VP Finance and other internal stakeholders, produces monthly and quarterly forecasts (current year, 12 month rolling, and five year) within Vena. Monitors whether BlueShore’s forecasted performance is consistent with BlueShore’s performance objectives, strategy, and risk tolerance. Responsible for maintaining and inputting accurate forecast information within Vena and importing the Asset-Liability Model and miscellaneous working papers as necessary
  • Leads the FP&A team in the development and maintenance of Vena and training other users as appropriate. Oversees the development of analysis and reporting in alignment with the FP&A department’s strategic roadmap using Vena and Temenos Insight Analytics.
  • Develops strong working relationships with relevant business units and departments while assisting them in achieving the organization’s strategic and financial priorities
  • Leads the preparation of Expected Credit Loss (ECL) reporting and variance analysis, while maintaining the ECL model in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in support of the Accounting team. Responds to ECL-related enquires from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepares and enhances a variety of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports at the consolidated, subsidiary, line of business, and client segment levels
  • Lead the preparation of the Management Discussion & Analysis report, while working closely with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participates in Management Committees as required 
  • Prepares ad hoc reports and analyses as assigned
  • Assist in the preparation and review of the audited financial statements as required. Oversees the preparation of working papers that tie to the G/L, documents processes and controls, updates financial statement notes and responds to requests as part of the annual external audit in support of the Accounting team
  • Researches and analyzes areas of technical complexity such as new IFRS and regulatory reporting requirements, producing technical memos as necessary in support of the Accounting team
  • Maintains awareness of developments in the economic environment, assesses the implications to BlueShore, and incorporates into analysis and forecasting as appropriate
  • Assists with strategic IT projects, attending planning meetings, advising on Finance requirements and process improvements and performing testing and implementation
  • Manages and proactively coaches direct reports; participates in the recruitment and selection of new staff; develops individual objectives to meet department goals; evaluates staff performance using performance management system; initiates salary reviews as required; recognizes and rewards employees; takes corrective action as required; and develops employees to assist them in achieving career success and growth. Provides development opportunities for staff through various sources including learning sessions, internal and external training, and education courses.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to junior and senior team members within the Accounting and FP&A departments

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems or related
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent
  • 5-7 years directly relevant experience
  • Experience with financial institutions an asset
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and modelling an asset
  • Knowledge of banking systems, ERP systems/software, and business intelligence systems an asset
  • Understanding of IFRS an asset
  • Expert Excel skills and solid knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • SQL or ability to write database queries an asset

Pay Transparency

The target range of this role is $94,000 - $115,000 per year, plus a variable performance bonus. Employment offers are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
