The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $111,544 to $160,345
JOB SUMMARY:
The Manager, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) will report to the Avangrid Renewables Senior Director of EHS. This position will manage environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance within the Avangrid Renewables organization. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment by managing programs related to occupational health, safety, and environmental protection.
The Manager will assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards, as well as promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across the organization.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee staff of EHS professionals across multiple regions.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations as well as permitted activities at an Avangrid site.
- Develop, manage, and continually improve internal EHS procedures, programs and processes.
- Design and enforce policies that comply with legal standards and promote safety in the workplace.
- Update policies as regulations change and address evolving workplace needs.
- Identify and execute risk reduction strategies, by partnering with operational customer to identify risks and implement solutions.
- Implement and manage EHS Management System (ISO 14001 & 45001) requirements and verify management and employee compliance with the organization’s safety management system, health and safety policies/procedures, and all government regulations.
- Interface with EHS consultants and subcontractors for EHS and health-related studies, training, audits, regulatory concerns, and program improvement.
- Represent the organization and participate on various safety and industry associations or committees.
- Consult with external sources, colleagues and functional area experts to determine best practices and apply them in a cost-effective manner.
- Review site inspections and company audits.
- Train employees on EHS policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
- Lead investigation and reporting of significant EHS incidents including fatalities.
- Track, summarize, and plan improvements to Avangrid’s performance on safety, health and related matters.
- Track and report EHS performance metrics to management and suggest improvements.
- Analyze trends in incidents, near-misses, and compliance to make data-driven decisions.
- Evaluate potential hazards by conducting regular risk assessments and inspections.
- Develop and implement corrective actions for identified safety and environmental risks.
- Stay updated on OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and submit required compliance reports and documentation to regulatory agencies.
- Investigate workplace accidents and incidents to identify root causes.
- Implement preventive measures to reduce the risk of future incidents and keep thorough records of all findings.
- Lead the Central Safety Committee meetings to address ongoing issues and foster a safety-oriented culture.
- Ensure vendors and contractors adhere to EHS standards when working on-site.
- Assists in preparing performance reports to management.
- Establish inclusive relationships with key leaders to promote positive EHS culture.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree (EHS, Engineering, or Environmental Engineering preferred) with a minimum of seven years relevant Environmental, Health, and Safety experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Exceptional knowledge and understanding of pertinent federal, state and local regulatory codes including DOT, OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and NESC.
- Ability to deliver results related to EHS in the region assigned.
Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of EHS regulations applicable to the renewable energy industry.
- Proficient technical skills related to wind/solar generation and balance of plant.
- Knowledge of relevant Management System Standards: OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and follow-through skills.
- Proficient project/program management skills.
- Knowledge and experience with data systems including SAP, Gensuite, and similar platforms.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to positively influence at all levels in the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Ability to professionally develop and deliver EHS training.
- Advanced problem solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Able to analyze complex information, distill salient items and create appropriate action plans.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive and professional audits, inspections, and observations.
- Ability to perform statistical analysis and modeling.
- Ability to coordinate and collaborate with industry professionals across the company.
- Ability to travel domestically routinely, up to 75% with occasional international travel.
- Ability to safely climb and navigate wind turbines.
- Willingness to obtain further certifications and ongoing education.
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS, engineering, sciences, environmental, or similar
- Experience with principles of Human & Organizational Performance (HOP)
- Formal EHS Certifications preferred (CSP, COSS, SMS, CHMM, ASP, CIH, or CUSP)
