ForeFlight, a Boeing Company, is looking for an experienced machine learning engineer to join our Data Team. This person will join a team of data engineers dedicated to extracting structured aeronautical information from a wide variety of documents.

Professionally, this person is driven to execute, deliver, and complete projects independently, seeking advice and direction from team members when needed. This person is naturally curious, exploring new technologies in order to stay current, but balances the use of new and old to ensure that execution is priority.

Position Responsibilities:

• Select appropriate ML models to solve classification problems.
• Apply aviation expertise to clean data for training and design data preprocessing pipelines.
• Train and validate ML models.
• Fine-tune OCR and document question answering software to extract information from documents.
• Develop Python software to integrate information from ML models, through our ETL pipelines, into a Postgres database.
• Troubleshoot integration issues with our Java backend.
• Collaborate with other teams to identify opportunities where machine learning can address their pain points.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):           

• Graduate education in Machine Learning or Data Science
• Aviation domain experience, equivalent to a private pilot’s license or better.
• Data Engineering experience with ETL pipelines, data cleaning, and PostgreSQL 
• Experience using OCR libraries to extract data from PDF or Word documents
• Python programming, minimum 3 years experience
• Python programming, minimum 1 years experience
• Clear written and verbal communication skills

Typical Education & Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience, 9 years' related work experience, etc.) Preferred but not required
