Required Qualifications:Excellent academic standing in a current graduate program.
Excellent English oral and written communication skills (native speaker, undergraduate degree from an accredited US university, or satisfactory SPEAK test scores required; see https://esl.wisc.edu/ita-training/speak/ for more information.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Previous teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of data visualization including how and why visualization can be an effective tool for summarizing, analyzing and communicating about data, the limitations and challenges in using data visualizations, including misrepresentation and bias and planning appropriate types of visualization(s) based on source data, audience, and goals. Hands-on experience with popular visualization software platforms to develop visualizations and presentations.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Director of the Information School (iSchool), teach LIS 407: Data Storytelling with Visualization in an web-based / online format for a portion of the summer semester of the 2024-25 academic year; June 9 - August 10, 2025.
Duties include: preparation of a pre-approved syllabus in consultation with iSchool staff, preparation and grading of assignments and examinations, holding synchronous office hours and communicating with students via email, virtual meetings, or by other means.
