Job Purpose:
This position is responsible for managing and maintaining credit union/financial institution accounts that present complex or precedent-setting underwriting situations. The key focus is to identify all risks and exposures, implement appropriate solutions, properly price lending products, and classify risks. This position will also be accountable for collaborating closely with field staff, customers, and other TruStage business areas, as appropriate. Serve as a risk assessment resource for other underwriters through formal and informal training and consultation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluate credit unions/financial institutions risks and exposures for assigned lending insurance product lines, namely, Credit Insurance, Debt Protection, Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP), and Mechanical Repair Coverage (MRC)
- Apply lending underwriting knowledge, judgment, and appropriate underwriting philosophy to determine what information is needed to provide appropriate solutions.
- Review new policy applications, declaration pages, questionnaires, lending financials, and other supporting documentation for completeness of information.
- Underwrite policies to meet corporate guidelines and standards.
- Participate in the development, testing, and enhancements to underwriting tools and aids.
- Participate in or lead special projects/initiatives as needed.
- Serve as cross-functional team member to mentor and/or support other underwriters.
- Works within a high-level letter of authority/decision with a full territory assigned.
- May or may not be a product specialist within the underwriting organization.
- Consult with compliance, legal, product, and/or customers with a high level of confidence and little oversight.

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related professional work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible underwriting experience.
- 1 to 2 years of progressively responsible Credit Union lending experience preferred.
- Proficient in the use of personal computer hardware and Microsoft software programs including MS Excel, MS Outlook, and Word.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated strong use of written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external team members.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills.
- Successfully demonstrated logical decision-making ability with strong attention to detail.
- Project management skills.
- Demonstrated desire to continue professional growth/education.
- Willingness to travel.

Compensation may vary based on the job level, your geographic work location, position incentive plan and exemption status.
Base Salary Range:
$81,500.00 - $122,300.00
