The Legal Associate will work with two Extension-based programs:  the OSU Agricultural & Resource Law Program and the Income Tax Schools Program.

OSU Agricultural & Resource Law Program.  The Research Specialist will assist the Field Specialist in Agricultural & Resource Law in delivering the program.  A primary responsibility will be to help design and complete legal research work projects through a partnership grant with the National Agricultural Law Center.  Work projects may include law bulletins, reports, and white papers on topics such as farm finance laws, employment law, contract law, business organizations, agricultural entrepreneurship, and estate and transition planning. The Research Specialist will also be responsible for general educational activities such as conveying current legal news updates through the Ohio Ag Law Blog, preparing curriculum and materials for Extension programs, giving presentations to Extension and stakeholder audiences and assisting with the program's Farm Office website.  A third area of responsibility will be to engage in education, consultation and mediation activities for the Ohio Farm Resolution Program, Ohio’s USDA funded Certified Agricultural Mediation Program, including maintaining certification as a Qualified Mediator for the program.  

OSU Income Tax Schools. The Research Specialist will also assist the Leader, Production Business Management in administering and delivering the Income Tax Schools at The Ohio State University. Responsibilities will include overseeing the efficient and accurate handling and processing of customer payments; promotion and marketing of tax schools; interacting with clientele to understand their needs, resolve concerns, and enhance overall satisfaction; strategically planning and executing event logistics, optimizing resources, and coordinating all aspects of the Income Tax Schools. The Research Specialist will analyze and synthesize tax and other legal topics to produce insightful, well-researched publications on the implications and applications of those laws to Ohioans. The Research Specialist will also organize and present informative seminars for the program that will educate professionals and other stakeholders on pertinent legal updates.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Juris Doctorate. Bar Admission. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.

The pay range for this job profile is $65,000 - $72,000 annually.  The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications. ​
