The role

Artificial intelligence and machine learning applications are already changing many aspects of our lives. Young people who understand how AI works will be better equipped to engage with the world around them, make informed decisions about using and creating AI applications, and choose what role AI will play in their futures.

We are looking to recruit an experienced computing and computer science educator to join the Raspberry Pi Foundation to help develop high-quality educational materials focused on AI, machine learning, and their applications, spanning Key Stages 1 to 5 (ages 4 to 18).

Our AI literacy team has focused on the delivery of Experience AI, an educational programme that offers cutting-edge resources on artificial intelligence and machine learning for teachers and students aged 11–14. Developed in collaboration by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind. The programme supports teachers in the exciting and fast-moving area of AI, and gets young people passionate about the subject.

The ideal candidate will possess a degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or a closely related field, coupled with Qualified Teacher Status and at least three years of direct classroom experience (primary or secondary), preferably teaching Computer Science. You will need to demonstrate enthusiasm for staying abreast of the latest advancements in AI technology. Experience in delivering AI-focused lessons is highly desirable.

We strive to make the Foundation a place where talented people who care about our mission can do the best work of their careers. We have a flexible and collaborative approach to all aspects of our work. If you’re the right person for the job, we’ll make it work for you, and you can be confident that you’ll be working with an exceptional team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver learning experiences, content, resources, and training for the Foundation's educational programmes and products.
  • Ensure that learning experiences, content, resources, and training reflect evidence-based pedagogy and the Foundation's agreed approaches to teaching and learning across formal education and non-formal learning.
  • Contribute to the development of the Foundation's teaching and learning strategy and approaches. Actively engage with research and best practice, and identify areas for improvement and innovation.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation and external partners.
  • Engage positively with the Foundation's systems for quality assurance, including in relation to agreed policies for inclusion and accessibility.
  • Proactively utilise user feedback and data to drive improvement.
  • Represent the Raspberry Pi Foundation to external audiences and stakeholders as required.
  • Contribute to the Foundation's thought leadership through writing articles and blogs, public speaking, and contributing to research and evaluation.

Experience and personal attributes

We recognise that everyone has the potential for growth, and we welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate that they have some, but not all, of the experience and personal attributes listed here.

  • A thorough understanding of computing, with a degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related subject.
  • Qualified Teacher Status and at least 3 years direct experience of teaching computer science.
  • Experience in designing and implementing AI literacy curriculum for students, combined with a demonstrable interest in the latest developments in AI for education.
  • Experience of delivering high quality learning experiences, content, resources, or training in a variety of different settings and contexts.
  • Comfortable with a broad range of technologies, including hardware and software platforms, and the ability and willingness to learn new technologies as required.
  • An understanding of computing pedagogy within formal education and informal learning.
  • A commitment to the Foundation's mission and values, including on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and external partners. Openness to working across the Foundation's programmes and products.
  • Willingness to travel in the UK and potentially internationally.

About us

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a UK-based educational charity with the mission to enable young people to realise their full potential through the power of computing and digital technologies. You can read more about us on our careers page.

Established in 2008 and first known for our product — the wildly successful Raspberry Pi computer — the Foundation has developed education programmes, learning experiences, and products that are helping millions of young people learn vital new knowledge and skills.

Through Code Club, we support the world’s largest network of free informal computing clubs for young people. Tens of thousands of educators have taken our online courses, and millions of people use our free online learning resources. To deepen our understanding of how young people learn about computing and how to create with digital technologies, we conduct academic research, and we use that knowledge to increase the impact of our work and advance the field of computing education.

Across all of our work, we work hard to engage young people who come from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in the field of computing or who experience educational disadvantage. We work all over the world, with teams based in the UK, Ireland, North America, and India, and partnerships with mission-aligned organisations in over 40 countries.

We are at the forefront of the global movement to help young people learn about computing and digital making. You can read more about our mission, values, and goals in our Annual Review 2023 and our Strategy 2022–2025.
