We are currently hiring for an experienced remote Learning Experience Designer to join our team here at Joyce University. The Learning Experience Designer (LXD) plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational experiences of our online students. This position is dedicated to developing, implementing, and refining engaging instructional materials and courses to meet the diverse learning needs of our students. The LXD works closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and academic leadership, utilizing educational theories and technologies along with instructional design principles to create effective, engaging, and accessible online learning solutions that align with our commitment to student and academic excellence. This role reports directly to the Director of Learning Experience and Technology.

WHAT YOU DO EVERYDAY:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of instructional design models and teaching and learning theories (e.g., ADDIE, , Backward Design, Problem-based Learning, Gagne’s 9 Events of Instruction, Constructivism, Cognitivism).
  • Knowledge of and experience with user experience design (UXD) to ensure seamless navigation and functionality for students and faculty. 
  • Collaborate with SMEs to create engaging and effective learning materials.
  • Create SME developed instructional content using multimedia, interactive activities, simulations, and assessments that align with best practices in online education.
  • Utilize innovative  e-learning authoring tools to create interactive content and enhance the learning experience.
  • Ensure all learning materials and course content comply with Section 508 accessibility standards and WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), making courses fully accessible to learners with disabilities.
  • Effectively organize and manage course materials within the learning management system (LMS) to ensure easy access, consistency, and seamless user experience for students and faculty.
  • Analyze learner data and feedback to identify areas for improvement in course design.
  • Review course content thoroughly and provide SMEs with constructive feedback, ensuring alignment with instructional design standards, accessibility requirements, and institutional and program learning outcomes.
  • Maintain high attention to detail and consistency across all course materials, ensuring that branding, formatting, and instructional elements are cohesive and meet quality standards, including verifying that content is free of errors and aligns with institutional guidelines.
  • Provide support to students and faculty including timely responses to inquiries and resolving issues through the ticketing system. Ensure efficient handling of tickets to maintain a high standard of service and support in the learning environment.
  • Oversee and coordinate multiple projects concurrently, ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of high-quality course content.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to support the best interests of the institution.
  • Foster a team-oriented environment that prioritizes open communication, shared goals, and a commitment to creating high-quality learning experiences that align with the institution’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Conduct training sessions for faculty on best practices in online teaching and course design.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in online education, educational technology, and instructional design to continually improve course development and delivery practices.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in instructional design, e-learning development, training, or a related field.
  • Experience designing and developing engaging innovative online courses for higher education.
  • Experience with innovative course authoring tools. 
  • Proficiency with Canvas LMS and e-learning innovative authoring tools such as Articulate, H5P, or similar.

Preferred:

  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching in a higher education environment.
  • Quality Matters (QM) certification or experience applying QM standards.
  • Certification or demonstrated experience in project management (e.g., PMP, Agile, or related training).
