Description
BETA is seeking an experienced Lead Traffic Engineer to lead the traffic engineering team in our Manchester, NH office. This position will play a key role in performing and overseeing technical designs, development of projects from conceptual to final design, oversee the preparation of contract plans and documents, mentor staff, manage traffic projects and perform business development, project pursuits, and client management.
Responsibilities:
- Perform, manage, and oversee design on traffic and transportation projects
- Perform detailed traffic analysis, traffic signal design, traffic modeling and simulation, intersection geometrics, complete streets, and temporary traffic controls
- Manage traffic related projects
- Technical design lead on concurrent projects
- Review and prepare traffic related contract documents
- Provide responsive client service through strong and expeditious communication
- Mentor junior staff to enhance their knowledge and advance their career development
- Attend and present at client and public meetings
- Perform business development and manage project pursuits
- Collaborate across internal disciplines and office locations
Preferred location is BETA’s Manchester office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements
Skills Required:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
- Professional Engineer license required
- 12 to 18 years of related engineering experience in traffic
- Demonstrated strong background in traffic and transportation engineering
- Proficient with AutoCAD Civil3D and Microstation Connect
- Experience with MUTCD and AASHTO
- Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
- Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with NHDOT, MaineDOT and VTrans design policy guidelines and requirements desired
- Proficiency in Synchro, SimTraffic, and Vissim, preferred
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred
