Title: Lead Historic Preservation Specialist
Location: Remote – Eastern US preferred (Locations: Jacksonville, FL / Atlanta, GA / Charlotte, NC / Washington, DC)

ICF is currently seeking a Lead Historic Preservation Specialist to provide cultural resource management expertise in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment, requiring flexibility, attention to detail, and an ability to keep track of multiple simultaneous projects. Our work supports vital energy generation and transmittal, disaster recovery, and transportation initiatives across the United States and its Territories and includes work on some of the nation’s most important and complex environmental compliance projects.  This position is based in the Eastern U.S. region with the option to work remotely. 

The Lead Architectural Historian is a senior-level position that will meet Secretary of Interior Professional Qualification Standards for architectural history, provide cultural resource management services as a client-facing technical lead, working in multi-disciplinary teams with environmental planners, biologists, and other cultural resource specialists (such as archaeologists). Since much of our work involves assisting agencies with navigating both the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 106 processes, the ideal candidate would have regulatory compliance experience. The ideal candidate would also have a strong background in architectural history technical studies, and will have experience with historic property surveys, report writing, and National Register evaluation.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide high level support to address complex cultural resource management challenges requiring advanced technical or regulatory knowledge.
  • Support Section 106 reviews as a technical expert, including evaluations for National Register of Historic Places, Section 106 coordination with agencies and State Historic Preservation Offices, consulting party outreach, review of cultural resource survey and evaluation reports, assessments of effects on historic properties, development of resource management and mitigation recommendations and agreement documents
  • Support NEPA reviews, including collaboration with integrated teams of cultural resources specialists to solve problems alongside natural resources scientists, planners, regulators, engineers, and other stakeholders
  • Plan and conduct architectural survey fieldwork, including drafting and finalizing historic property inventory reports and forms

     
What You Will Need To Have (Minimum Qualifications): 

  • Master’s degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation or closely related field
  • 8+ years of professional experience in cultural resources management
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check  

     
What We’d Like You to Have (Preferred Qualifications):  

  • Experience in environmental planning and regulatory compliance (NEPA, Section 106 of the NHPA, and Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act)
  • A background working with private and public sector clients and regulatory agencies (such as the Department of Energy, Federal Aviation Administration, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Housing & Urban Development, and Federal Emergency Management Agency) and/or working within the highway transportation sector
  • Knowledge of the history and architectural history in Eastern United States; knowledge of other regions of the United States is a plus
  • Demonstrated research and writing abilities, with the ability to present clear, precise, analytical, and authoritative arguments. A writing sample may be requested

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$76,848.00 - $130,642.00
