As we expand, we are actively seeking an Labor & Employment Law Program Manager to join our team. This role is essential for fostering a compliant, inclusive and productive workplace environment throughout the employee lifecycle.

In collaboration with legal, this position serves as the employment law expert for the company, ensuring we remain current and compliant with federal and statutory employment law mandates across all our US locations.

Overview

The Labor & Employment Law Program Manager is a strategic and tactical thinker with expertise in multi-state and federal employment law.  The ideal candidate will ensure employment laws are proactively managed throughout the implementation lifecycle.  This role is not a legal advisor, but a business expert working closely with legal to ensure best practices and processes are compliant and accurate.  Responsibilities include adherence to compliance as it relates to labor laws, audits, investigation documentation support, and ad hoc projects.  This role requires a proactive approach of continuous review, updates, and distribution of enterprise-wide policies and procedures related to employment law compliance, aligned with legal requirements and industry standards.

Responsibilities  

  • Stay current on all federal and statutory employment law changes and updates
  • Research and interpret State and Federal regulations to ensure all company policies and procedures are in compliance with applicable laws
  • Proactively provide strategic advice  in employment law, including but not limited to terminations, and compliance with regulatory concerns
  • Provide strategic advice on the implementation of compliance policies and procedures, ensuring they are effectively communicated and adhered to throughout the organization
  • Interpret policies, and procedures, incorporating expert knowledge of regulatory state and federal employment laws (i. e. ADA, FMLA, EEO) 
  • Communicate legal terminology in a clear and concise manner to enhance employee policy translation and comprehension
  • Oversee processes for I-9s, E-Verify, and unemployment claims (verifications and appeals)
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and departments to implement and revise company policies and practices to adhere to legal standards
  • Create comprehensive materials on our internal intranet
  • Develop and deliver training and presentations to various stakeholders within the organization on legal compliance issues, preventative measures, and best practices in employment law
  • Support special projects
  • Assist in the resolution of legal disputes involving the company, preparing necessary documentation and representing the company as required
  • Develop and oversee a compliance review and auditing system to monitor and evaluate compliance with employment laws
  • Serve as a liaison between human resources and legal departments to ensure accurate and compliant documentation and communication
  • Facilitate the collection and preparation of necessary information from human resources, guided by legal counsel to meet regulatory standards

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of direct employment law experience, preferably in a startup setting
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal employment regulations
  • Experience building and improving workplace policies and practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a comprehensive  manner
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively research information through online resources 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills, with a focus on continuous process improvements and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to track and analyze results-driven data 
  • Strategic thinker and hands-on team player (no job is too small or too large), willing to take on additional responsibilities
  • Enjoys working in a fast paced and innovative business
  • Experience collaborating with areas such as human resources, operations, and legal
  • Ability to maintain confidential information

At FreedomCare, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides our employees with the opportunity to professionally grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $120,000 and $170,000 per year at the commencement of your first year of employment. Compensation decisions are dependent upon a variety of factors which may include, but are not limited to: skill set, years of relevant experience, education, location, and licensure/certifications.
