Korean Fisheries Improvement Officer - South Korea - Remote

Working closely with the Korean Fisheries Improvement Manager (KFIM), the Korean Fisheries Improvement Officer is a dedicated contracted role, responsible for assisting in the implementation of currently contracted/committed work in Korea; supporting development of new projects and partnership opportunities; and maintaining relationships with key partners and stakeholders. In supporting the KFIM, the Korean Fisheries Improvement Officer will conduct research, organize meetings/workshops/seminars and directly engage with key stakeholders (e.g. industry partners, local fishermen, governmental agencies, and NGOs) in Korea. In addition, this position will support work plan development and implementation; project management and providing project progress updates; holding regular stakeholder meetings; as well as administrative and operational tasks in support of O2’s Korea program.

We are seeking a contractor based in Korea, who can travel nationally, and internationally. The person should have a flexible, creative, and empathetic outlook, possess independent and entrepreneurial qualities; and a strong background in fisheries, seafood businesses, and/or sustainability and environmental issues are preferred. The person should also possess the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with strong independent management and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and management of current projects in Korea
  • Support the development, management and tracking of the annual programmatic work plan
  • Organize stakeholder meetings to facilitate implementation of current work and to develop potential project and partnership opportunities
  • Conduct research and analysis in collaboration with program team and science/analytic team
  • Develop and manage high-quality communications to facilitate industry engagement and to support O2’s work in Korea
  • Other support responsibilities include, but not limited to, coordinating events and meetings, including, logistics; translation and interpretation.
  • Help nurture relationships with current and prospective program partners

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, an advanced degree in environmental and natural resource conservation, fishery science, business, marketing, public relations, etc. a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in relevant fields e.g. conservation, seafood business, fisheries, etc.
  • Passionate commitment to the health of fisheries and oceans
  • Good human and professional interaction skills are essential
  • Resourceful, collaborative, proactive, adaptable, able to learn fast and creative problem solver
  • Energetic and self-directed; able to work independently and function at a high level in a virtual, cross-cultural, and international organization
  • Team player and demonstrated ability to maintain excellent internal and external relationships
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Korean language skills
  • Commitment to transparency, accountability, continuous learning, and direct, constructive communication
  • Ability to work independently and remotely using modern cloud computing tools
  • Excellent computer skills appropriate to an evolving cloud-based IT environment, including experience with Google Workplace, CRM databases, and online task management platforms such as Asana
  • Ability to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally, possibly up to 30%
  • Ability to work with a geographically dispersed team across time zones
  • Capability to build and maintain professional, equity-centered, relationships with coworkers, stakeholders and clients

Benefits

Compensation, Location, and Travel Expectations

Annual compensation for this dedicated contracted role will be between USD 48,000 $59,000 which will be commensurate with experience. The person contracted will become a core member of O2’s virtual team. The contractor will be ‘home-based,’ meaning they will support their own work space in a location of their choice in Korea. Currently, O2 has team members and core partners in China, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States. We aspire to bring the whole team together each year in locations around the world.
