Junior Ship Structural Engineer

The Opportunity:
Junior structural engineer role is an excellent role for engineers who seek experience with designing ship structures and learning about materials and construction methods used in ship building. Junior structural engineer is part of a team of naval architects, structural engineers, and designers providing
structural designs and solutions for US Navy and USCG ships. Opportunity to support CACI's Washington, DC office, e.g. Client Site Offices at the Washington Navy Yard or NSWC-Carderock and future potential flexible, hybrid positions, and work with customers, such as, MSC, NSWC, and NAVSEA.
Responsibilities:
- Use AutoCAD to develop structural drawings, which are then used to build equipment foundations and other ship structures for new and existing ships.
- Learn customer requirements for structural drawing development.
- Work with structural engineers and engineers from other disciplines (e.g., mechanical and electrical) to develop structural drawings.
- Attend ship checks to collect information necessary to develop structural drawings.
- Apply structural formulas to verify strength of structural designs.
- Learn to model and analyze ship structures using finite element software (Femap).
- Become familiar with marine rules and standards used for design and analysis of structural designs.
- Document methods, assumptions, and results in reports.
- Perform Shipyard and/or design Contract Deliverable reviews for Contract Specification SOWs, Regulatory, and technical compliance.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or related field.
- Experience drafting basic, to-scale layout drawings using AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Detail-oriented.
- Good analytical skills.
- Ability to speak and write clearly in English.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Security clearance eligibility.
Desired:
Experience or internship in marine industry and/or defense industry, e.g., US Navy or USCG. Knowledge of marine rules, standards, and codes. Proficiency with 3-D CAD, such as Solidworks. Experience performing ship calculations (e.g., weights and moments) or structural design/calculations.

The proposed salary range for this position is:
