The Product Design team is a multidisciplinary group of designers responsible for creating seamless, engaging, and user-friendly experiences across the Pluto TV ecosystem. We combine creativity, technology, and user insights to design interfaces and interactions that enhance user satisfaction and drive engagement.
The team works closely with all areas of product management, project management, engineering, research, marketing, and content teams to ensure design solutions meet business goals, are technically feasible, and address user needs. Through agile workflows, regular feedback loops, and iterative processes, we deliver validated and polished designs that resonate with users and scale globally.
Our Nitro Design System plays a foundational role in building components across all platforms. It is a single source of truth for Pluto TV UI assets, standards, and guidelines, serving product designers and engineers while bridging their collaboration to support UI consistency.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- User Experience: Conduct user research to understand audience behaviors, needs, and pain points.
- Create wireframes, user flows, and prototypes to optimize navigation and accessibility.
- Focus on enhancing usability across web, mobile, and TV applications.
- User Interface: Develop visually appealing interfaces that align with the brand's identity.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure pixel-perfect implementation of designs.
- Maintain consistency across all touchpoints while incorporating adaptive design principles - developed through a test-driven approach, where design decisions are made based on user testing and feedback
- Research: Run moderated and unmoderated usability tests to gather qualitative feedback.
- Analyze data to inform iterative design improvements.
- UX Writing: Develop clear, concise, and engaging microcopy (e.g., button labels, error messages).
- Ensure content aligns with tone and voice, enhancing the overall experience.
- Design Systems: Build and maintain a scalable design system, including components, patterns, and style guides.
- Ensure cross-functional teams work cohesively within a unified framework.
- Accessibility: Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) across all products.
- Advocate for inclusive design to cater to users with diverse abilities.
Key Objectives:
- Personalization: Tailor the streaming experience with intuitive interfaces that adapt to individual viewing habits.
- Discovery: Make content discovery simple and enjoyable through well-thought-out navigation and recommendations.
- Engagement: Design features that encourage users to explore, share, and stay longer on the platform.
- Consistency: Deliver a cohesive experience across multiple platforms (e.g., apps, browsers, TVs).
- Innovation: Push boundaries with cutting-edge design trends and emerging technologies, such as conversational search, voice interfaces, AR/VR integrations.
Qualifications:
- Participates in translation of product concepts into elegant product interaction experiences on assigned projects
- Executes well-defined product design activities
- Follows design procedures and standards, typically for assigned portions of project components
- Developing ability to understand how designs impact and can be adjusted based on user data
- Solves design challenges for semi-routine project components
- Escalates and may identify schedule and other design process risks
- Interacts within team to create compelling product design features
- Assists on product design teams by completing requested assignments
- Developing familiarity with UI/UX product design
- Familiarity with foundational UI/UX design
- Experience with fundamental prototyping and user research

You must be available to intern full-time (5 days a week/36-40 hours a week) for 10 weeks total starting in June.

Interns will be required to work hybrid or fully on-site for the duration of the program.

Internships are paid at a competitive standard hourly rate (school credit is optional).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The hourly rate for this position is $38.00 - 43.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
