So, what’s the role?

We are looking to hire an experienced IT engineer to manage our company’s computer systems. As an IT engineer, you will be responsible for designing hardware configurations, installing software, managing network systems, and training staff on correct operating procedures.

To ensure success as an IT engineer, you should have extensive experience maintaining large-scale cloud systems, the ability to project manage, and excellent troubleshooting skills. A top-level IT engineer can design and maintain a dynamic and stable system to meet the company's needs.

A day in the life could include…

  • Designing and implementing efficient and scalable computer systems and networks that meet the organization's needs

  • Monitoring and maintaining the organization's infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and security

  • Identifying opportunities for automation of IT processes using available APIs, scripting, and platform tooling

  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner

  • Serving as an escalation point for end-user technical support, assisting with computer-related problems and questions

  • Implementing and maintaining security measures to protect the organization's data and systems from unauthorized access and cyber threats

  • Planning and executing system upgrades and migrations to keep the organization's technology infrastructure up-to-date

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, network diagrams, and troubleshooting procedures

  • Managing projects for yourself and the team

I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?

  • 2 years of experience in a similar IT role

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred)

  • Relevant certifications include CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, and Microsoft MCSA; a Certified SCRUM Master certification (preferred)

  • Proficiency with both Windows & macOS operating systems

  • Proficiency in network protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN)

  • Experience with MDM & RMM platforms (e.g., JAMF, JumpCloud, NinjaOne)

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python)

  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop practical solutions

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with end-users and colleagues

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

  • Experience working in a fully SaaS, start-up environment

  • Experience administering and configuring one or more of the following:

    • Okta

    • Google Workspace

    • Slack

    • JumpCloud

    • Atlassian / Jira

    • Google Cloud Platform

    • AWS

  • Experience with one or more automation platforms such as:

    • Okta Workflows

    • BetterCloud

    • Zapier

Career Path

IT Engineers can progress into senior roles such as Senior IT Engineer, Systems Architect, or Staff IT Engineer. They may also specialize in specific areas such as security, prod support, DevOps, or data management.
