The Investor Relations Manager is part of the team that represents Upwork to the Wall Street investment community. Reporting to the VP of Investor Relations, the Investor Relations Manager will support the strategy and development of our investor relations (“IR”) effort to ensure investors understand our vision and strategy for delivering shareholder value. The IR Manager will collaborate with everyone involved in the IR process, including FP&A, communications, accounting, legal, product, marketing, and sales. A background in the internet and/or tech sector and experience in investor relations for a publicly traded company, equity research or investment banking will set you up for success. This is an exciting time for Upwork, and we are looking for the right team member to join our IR function and support how we share our story.

 Your Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the VP of IR, FP&A, communications, accounting, legal, CFO, and CEO, and various other key players as needed, to develop and communicate key messaging regarding quarterly financials and long-term strategy
  • Support the earnings preparation process for the shareholder letter and script through interaction with internal teams in acquiring data and content, Q&A preparation, and process management

  • Contribute to investor relationship management, including tracking the efficacy of the engagement efforts with roadshows, investor conferences, and individual meetings

  • Support investor meetings, targeting, and scheduling, with a goal of meeting investor interest and demand with the accurate level of engagement by executives and IR; maintain the investor database with meeting and/or calls conducted

  • Monitor peer, competitor, and industry-related earnings calls, presentations, and media commentary; compare Upwork’s financial performance and positioning relative to peers, relay highlights to senior management

  • Research and provide commentary regarding current events within the market and industry that may affect the company stock

  • Track and analyze insights from sell side analyst reports and models

  • Lead and participate in ad-hoc initiatives and projects

  • Passion for Upwork's mission
  • Familiarity with valuation methodologies

  • Familiarity with data platforms such as Factset, Capital IQ, Alpha-Sense & IR Insight

  • Knowledge of the equity investment and sell-side landscapes

  • Investor relations experience for a publicly traded company, especially B2B, Marketplace, SaaS or other growth oriented businesses

  • Strong communication, writing, and financial modeling skills with an ability to simplify and synthesize large amounts of data and detail

  • Proven comprehension of financial reports and performance measurements as well as financial data and analytic tools

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts quickly and complete multiple assignments with high levels of quality

  • Proficient in Google Workspace, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides 

  • A collaborative working style and ability to work cross-functionally internally and externally

  • Critical thinking: Ability to work independently and tackle problems with minimal direct supervision

The annual base salary range for this position in California and Washington is displayed below. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position in California and Washington, and individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.

Total Annual Compensation$144,000—$169,500 USD
