Our Organization and Mission:

The Division of Real Estate (DRE) is responsible for the examination, licensing, and regulation of +480,000 real estate and appraisal professionals.  The Division provides administrative support to the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) and the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board (FREAB). The Division’s objectives are to lead the nation in licensing and regulatory programs for Florida real estate and appraiser licensees. 

• Locations: The headquarters is in Orlando.  The Division has personnel located around the state in Tallahassee, Panama City Beach and Gainesville areas and maintains field offices in Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami, West Palm Beach, Margate and Fort Myers.

• Authority: The Division is governed by Chapter 120, Administrative Procedures Act, Florida Statutes 475 (Part 1 Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC) and Part II Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board (FREAB)) and Florida Statutes 455.

• Organizational Structure: There are 68 employees that work in the Director’s Office, Operations & Licensing, FREC, FREAB, Public Records, Education and Enforcement.  There are 17 real estate attorneys that work for the Office of General Counsel.

• The Bureau of Enforcement is responsible for the compliance of licensees and protecting the public by performing timely and efficient investigations.  The Bureau investigates complaints regarding the real estate and appraisal professions, as well as unlicensed activity.  Violations that warrant additional action are processed through the Department’s Office of the General Counsel.

 

The Work You Will Do:

This primarily telework position located in Orlando is part of the Bureau of Enforcement and is responsible for investigating complaints for alleged violations of real estate and appraisal license law.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

•  Investigates complaints of alleged violations of Florida Statutes and Commission and Board Rules involving the Real Estate professions under the jurisdiction of the Division of Real Estate.

• Interviews complainants, subjects, and appropriate witnesses.

• Performs audits of real estate broker and brokerage escrow accounts.

• Reviews court records and other essential documents, collects evidence.

• Prepares and serves notices to cease and desist, notices of non-compliance, and citations.

• Prepares comprehensive, organized, chronological reports of final and supplemental investigations to include a synopsis of findings, table of contents, details of investigation, and sequential arrangement of evidentiary exhibits.

• Timely and accurately prepares and submits required reports and timely enters required time and activity tracking in department database.

• Consults with, assists, and acts as a liaison between the Division of Real Estate and the public, governmental agencies, and other Divisions within the Department.

• Refers cases to appropriate regulatory and/or criminal agencies as required.

• Builds and maintains collaborative networks with local authorities and professional organizations.

• Submits required reports (vehicle, time and attendance, etc.) in accordance with department and division policies and procedures.

• Testifies at criminal, civil and administrative hearings and depositions, and consults with Division attorneys in preparation for hearings as needed.

• Scans and indexes documents into the Department’s document imaging system.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of and ability to appropriately apply Chapter 455 and Chapter 475, Florida Statutes and 61J1 and 61J2 of the Florida Administrative Code.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

• Knowledge of how to use a document imaging system.

• Knowledge of investigative techniques.

• Ability to conduct a thorough investigation.

• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Ability to work independently and carry out a variety of projects.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

• Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

 

 

 

Minimum Requirements

• Four (4) to six (6) years of combined college or university credits and/or professional work experience in an organization performing regulatory investigations, licensing, insurance, banking, accounting, financial, legal, or criminal justice work.

• A valid driver license.

 

Preferred:

Preference may be given to bilingual candidates and / or those having Division of Real Estate, Versa, OnBase, real estate or investigative experience.

This position will be in Orlando.

This is a telework position.

A valid driver license is required.

This position requires occasional travel which may include overnight stays.

A writing sample and/or written test may be required at interview.
