Essential Functions and Job Summary
The NBA is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented, and globally-minded Vice President (VP) to lead the international marketing efforts for the league. This strategic, high-level role will serve as the voice and representative of the NBA's regional marketing teams in the U.S., while also ensuring alignment with global marketing initiatives. As the Head of International Marketing, you will drive the overarching strategy and coordinate campaigns across the NBA’s various international regions to deliver a unified brand experience and maximize the league's global presence.
In this role, you will spend approximately 50% of your time in key international markets to ensure alignment, build relationships with regional teams, and gain a deep understanding of local market needs. The ideal candidate will be an expert in international marketing with proven leadership in developing global strategies, driving growth, and fostering cross-functional collaboration.

 

Major Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and drive the global international marketing strategy for the NBA, ensuring consistency and alignment with overall brand goals while adapting for regional nuances. Lead the creation of campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences worldwide. Drive the Marketing vision across all locations and ensure movement towards shared OKMs. Presence and partnership with the international leadership team and the US senior leadership team.  

 

Regional Advocacy:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between U.S.-based marketing leadership and regional teams, ensuring regional insights, priorities, and needs are represented in global marketing strategies and initiatives.

 

Market Intelligence & Insights:

  • Spend significant time on the ground in key international markets to build relationships with local stakeholders, gather insights, and understand consumer behavior. Leverage this information to drive data-informed decisions and optimize campaign impact across all regions.

 

Campaign Management & Execution:

  • Oversee and collaborate with regional marketing teams to coordinate integrated global campaigns and guide development of local marketing campaigns.   Ensure the seamless execution of marketing strategies across various international markets, optimizing both local and global assets.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the NBA’s global brand, content, sponsorship, media, and digital teams to drive cohesive marketing initiatives. Ensure alignment across all touchpoints to provide a unified brand experience for fans worldwide. Implement process changes to optimize Marketing operations.  

 

Measurement & Reporting:

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the effectiveness of international marketing campaigns. Regularly report on campaign performance, and provide recommendations for optimization and future initiatives.

 

Budget:

  • Own and manage the budget and forecasting for Marketing across the regions.

 

Required Education/Professional Experience
•    Bachelor’s degree required
•    12+ years of experience in international Marketing


Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes
Experience:

  • 12+ years of experience in international marketing, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Experience in sports, entertainment, or consumer-facing brands is highly preferred.

 

Global Expertise:

  • Proven ability to develop and execute marketing strategies that work across multiple international markets, with a strong understanding of cultural differences, market dynamics, and consumer behavior in key global regions.

 

Leadership Skills:

  • Demonstrated success in leading large, cross-functional teams. Ability to influence and collaborate with senior leadership and regional teams to drive alignment and deliver results. Expertise in executing strategy and vision, with effective project management and benchmarks for success. 

 

Travel Flexibility:

  • Willingness to travel extensively (up to 50% of the time) to key international markets, building relationships and ensuring strategies are executed effectively on the ground.

 

Analytical & Strategic Thinking:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data and insights to drive decision-making and refine marketing strategies. Ability to see the big picture while also focusing on the details of execution. Ability to analyze feedback and data quickly, to generate recommendations and digestible solutions. 

 

Communication & Presentation:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate a clear vision to internal and external stakeholders. Fluent in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.

 

Salary Range: $290,000 - $350,000
