Purpose of Position

The Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering invites applications for an instructor, beginning in Fall 2024 contingent on the availability of funding. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaching petroleum and energy engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, depending on qualifications.
  • Participation in recruiting and outreach activities. 
  • Assisting in the management of the department’s labs, including the Drilling and Completion Lab, Drilling Simulator, Virtual Reality Lab, and Slurry Loop Lab.
  • Other duties as needed by the department.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the department and the College of Engineering and Mines
  • Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery
  • Ability to engage industry partners and connect course content to the practice of engineering in the field

Minimum Requirements

  • M.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of experience working in an engineering role in the energy industry.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Ten years of experience working in an engineering role in the energy industry.
