Purpose of the Position:
The Instructional Technology Senior Specialist selects and applies instructional technology principles to develop and implement learning products and prototypes in the D2L Brightspace Learning Management System. This position also ensures quality assurance through effective strategies and workflows, enhancing the overall online learning experience.
What You’ll Do:
- Technology Integration: Develop and implement strategies to integrate instructional technologies into online and hybrid courses to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Training and Support: Train and support faculty and staff on the use of instructional technologies, including learning management systems, multimedia tools, and other educational software.
- Course Design and Development: Collaborate with curriculum team members and faculty to create engaging and effective online course materials, ensuring alignment with educational standards and best practices.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and support instructional technology issues, ensuring timely resolution to minimize disruptions to the learning process.
- Research and Evaluation: Study emerging instructional technologies and pedagogical trends, conducting research and evaluations to recommend new tools and practices that can improve educational outcomes.
- Project Management: Lead and manage instructional technology projects, including planning, execution, and assessment, to ensure project and implementation success.
- Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the use of instructional technologies, ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Data Analysis: Analyze data related to the use and effectiveness of instructional technologies. Provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Collaboration: Work closely with various departments, including IT, academic affairs, and student services, to ensure a cohesive approach to instructional technology initiatives.
- Professional Development: Participate in and contribute to professional development opportunities, both for personal growth and to enhance the institution's instructional technology capabilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in instructional technology, education, or a related field.
- Advanced experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly D2L Brightspace.
- Demonstrated ability to apply principles of adult learning, learning styles, and various instructional design approaches to create effective learning content.
- Advanced Experience in building trainings or courses using D2L Brightspace and its tools, including Homepages, Widgets, Navigation Themes, Announcements, Manage Files, Import/Export/Copy Components, Manage Dates, Assessments, Assignments, Rubrics, Grades, Awards, Self-Assessments, Discussions, Intelligent Agents, and Coursework.
- Knowledge of vendor Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) integrations to enhance LMS functionality.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Acrobat, for creating and editing multimedia content.
- Knowledge of HTML, HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap 4, and XML for developing and maintaining web-based instructional materials.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills to resolve issues related to instructional technologies and ensure smooth operation of online courses.
- Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
- Ability to support a diverse and inclusive work environment.
- Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role.
Preferred Requirements:
- Master’s degree or equivalent education/job experience.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.
Compliance:
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follow all applicable state laws and rules, federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations and internal policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- This is a full-time remote position.
- Home office set up, quiet place to work, and ability to hard wire into high-speed internet connection.
- May require setup of computer equipment; accommodation consideration available upon request.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Anticipated starting salary is based on experience and qualifications.
