Role Responsibilities

Overall, as an Information Security Officer, you are tasked with protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the Government of Alberta's (GoA) information assets. You are responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, detecting, investigating, researching, and responding to vulnerabilities, threats and incidents impacting the security of information assets. 

You will support the GoA's Information Security Management Directives (ISMD) and contribute to the safe operation of the GoA computing environment. You may also be responsible for participating in or coordinating the development and implementation of security controls, including cyber security technology, processes, policy instruments, and awareness materials. 

Your responsibilities include: 

  • Providing information security advice to stakeholders 
  • Participating in projects as an information security subject matter expert 
  • Participating in the identification of information security requirements, as well as the development of strategies and solutions to meet these requirements 
  • Facilitating or performing identification, assessment, and treatment of information and technology security vulnerabilities, threats and risks 
  • Ensuring that risks are documented in the Government of Alberta's Information Technology Security Risk Register 
  • Communicating cyber threat information to stakeholders 
  • Performing vulnerability, cyber threat or cyber security controls related research as requested by Cybersecurity Services management

We are seeking to fill positions in both our Cyber Threat Hunting Team and Security Management Operations (Incident Response) Team. 

Information Security Officer 3
The Information Security Officer 3 position is the senior working level of the position. An incumbent may be asked to lead a team, an activity or a project relating to information security and must demonstrate an in-depth or expert level of knowledge in assigned tasks. 

Information Security Officer 2 
The Information Security Officer 2 position is the full working level of the position, which may be asked to mentor junior level resources.

Qualifications

A security certification (CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH, GPEN, or equivalent) is an asset. 

Information Security Officer 3 
A university degree in Computer Science or related, supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience is required. See below for equivalencies. 

Equivalencies are: 
Related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years related experience; related one-year certificate and minimum of seven (7) years related experience. 

Information Security Officer 2
A university degree in Computer Science or related, supplemented by at least two (2) years of related experience is required. See below for equivalencies.

Equivalencies are: 
Related two-year diploma and a minimum of four (4) years related experience; related one-year certificate and minimum of five (5) years related experience.

Term of Employment: Permanent - Full-time position  
Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week 
Location: Remote across Alberta
-    While this position is eligible for remote work, the successful candidate must reside in Alberta to work remotely.

Depending on the qualifications identified during the assessment process, classification will be determined at the Systems Analyst Level 2 or Systems Analyst Level 3. 

Depending on the project, on-call rotation and overtime may be required. 

Final candidate will be required to undergo security screening.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.

Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.
