Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable Indirect Tax Manager to join the IGS team. The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of indirect tax experience with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, attention to detail, and process improvement. The Indirect Tax Manager’s primary responsibility is to own the indirect tax compliance function, including timely filing of indirect tax returns, research and planning, notice responses, and account reconciliations.  The role will cover all areas of indirect tax, including but not limited to:  Sales & Use Tax, Gross Receipts Tax, Property Tax, Taxability Research, Audit Defense, and Tax Planning.   

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own all aspects of indirect tax compliance, including the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Responsible for maintaining the Indirect Tax Calendar to ensure all compliance deadlines are being tracked and managed appropriately.

  • Monthly review of the sales tax accrual accounts, including month-over-month and year-over-year fluctuation analysis, to ensure results are in line with expectations and any significant variances can be explained.

  • Manage the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Sales Tax process, including review and validation of the accuracy of information. The Indirect Tax Manager is not expected to act in a developer capacity; rather, the role will be responsible for coordinating with the Finance RPA Developer to ensure changes are implemented into the process to maintain an accurate and efficient compliance process.

  • Identify and implement improvements and maintain detailed process documentation to mitigate risk across all areas of indirect tax.

  • Perform internal audit of purchase transactions to ensure sales and use tax accuracy, work with the business units to correct issues, and identify refund opportunities.

  • Review licensing requirements and complete applications and renewals.

  • Conduct thorough research on taxability issues related to our products, services, and operations. Stay up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations.

  • Provide guidance and recommendations to senior business leaders on taxability matters upon entering new markets and introducing new product offerings.

  • Review indirect tax compliance during M&A transactions and lead the effort to integrate the indirect tax function for new acquisitions.

  • Identify tax planning opportunities to minimize indirect tax liabilities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement tax-efficient structures and processes. Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in indirect tax planning.

  • Lead and manage tax audits conducted by regulatory authorities. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather required information and documentation. Develop strategies to defend the company's tax positions and minimize potential liabilities.

Required Skills:

  • Highly professional. Possess strong organizational and project management skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, and property tax regulations.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing and leading indirect tax compliance and planning activities.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and a focus on accuracy.

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals in senior leadership positions across the organization.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of indirect tax experience in public accounting (or equivalent industry experience), preferably in the energy industry.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of tools.

  • Experience with RPA or data analytic tools, such as Power Query, Power BI, Alteryx, etc. preferred.

Salary Range:

$108,950.00 - $174,320.00

*This range reflects base pay only. Incentive earnings, like commissions or bonuses, are not included.

This role is also eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance.
