Flexible work schedule during business hours (8 AM - 5 PM) and depending on garden tasks. Attend approximately weekly early evening (to 7 PM) garden volunteer sessions.Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

1Qualifications:
-Familiarity with Indigenous food systems, sustainable agriculture, farming, gardening, forestry, and/or wild harvest.-Interest in working outside during summer weather conditions in gardens, farms, and research stations.
-Employment will require a criminal background check.
-The student must be enrolled for credit at an educational institution. The student will need to show proof of enrollment before starting.
-Preferred: ability to drive a university vehicle (valid drivers license, requiring clean driving record and 2 years driving experience with license).

Position Summary/Job Duties:
The Indigenous Research Garden Student Intern will work with the Rural Partnerships Institute Indigenous Food Systems Project team to coordinate planting, maintenance, weeding, harvesting, and volunteers at the UW Arboretum Indigenous Research Garden. The Indigenous Research Garden was established in 2019 with the purpose of demonstrating traditional Three Sisters mounds and engaging the campus community around Indigenous food systems. The intern will also support staff, graduate students, and Tribal partners in other areas of the Indigenous Food Systems Project, including field work and events around Indigenous cropping systems, manoomin (wild rice) research, and other topics based on student interest and where support is needed. This will include travel to other research sites across the state.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work outside in varying summer weather conditions.
