Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated, HR Leader to manage and enhance our Corrections Officer Statewide Recruitment Program. As the HR Coordinator Senior - Team Lead, you will develop, implement and lead strategic recruitment initiatives to attract and retain a diverse, resilient and highly qualified workforce of Corrections Officers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Team Leadership and Coordination: Provide leadership and guidance for statewide recruitment activities ensuring alignment with agency recruitment goals and objectives. Coordinate events and operational support. Handles inquiries from internal and external customers providing exceptional customer service.
- Strategic Planning: Develop, implement, and oversee a statewide corrections officer recruitment strategy tailored to address regional needs and workforce gaps.
- Partnership Development: Establish and nurture relationships with Unit Heads, Field HR Offices, Educational institutions, Community organizations, Military transition programs, and other relevant stakeholders to create a consistent pipeline of qualified candidates.
- Marketing and Outreach: Collaborate with stakeholders to design and execute targeted marketing campaigns, job fairs, and outreach events to attract diverse and qualified applicants.
- Data Analysis: Set recruitment goals and monitors recruitment metrics, analyzes trends, and prepares reports to measure the effectiveness of strategies and recommend improvements.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement best practices for streamlining the recruitment process, including application reviews, candidate communication, and interview scheduling.
- Travel: Conduct regular statewide travel to support recruitment efforts, attends events, and ensure the effective operation of regional recruitment initiatives.
- Compliance: Ensure all recruitment activities adhere to state and federal hiring regulations, as well as agency policies and guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience directing and leading the work of others. Knowledge of Human Resources (HR) recruitment policies and procedures. Highly proficient verbal and written communication and administrative skills with attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service, meet deadlines and exceed expectations. Ability to develop and execute comprehensive talent acquisition plans. Demonstrated ability to develop action plans to address HR operational needs and track key metrics related to recruitment processes. Ability to successfully interact with a diverse population.
Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task in order to manage multiple candidates and searches at the same time. Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner as well as function as a lead to others. Skilled in the use of Microsoft office programs. Familiarity with corrections, law enforcement, or public safety recruitment.
Additional Considerations
Experience working with HR Information Systems such as Cardinal, Page Up or other HRIS/Applicant Tracking Systems.
Demonstrated experience assisting with development and implementation of recruitment strategies for correctional officer positions.
Experience working in law enforcement, corrections or miliary environment.
Experience leading teams and coordinating statewide initiatives and events.
Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia state hiring processes and policies.
Proficiency in applicant tracking systems (ATS) and recruitment marketing tools.
