This is an advanced level coding position that codes and abstracts Outpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement and research. Codes and enters diagnostic and procedure codes into a designated coding and abstracting system utilizing the 3M encoder, as appropriate. Meets quality and productivity coding standards and demonstrates the ability to navigate an EMR. Ability to code across all facilities.

Qualifications

In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

• High School Diploma/G.E.D., required. 
• A minimum of 3 years coding experience in an acute care setting
• Associate Degree, preferred 
• Current AHIMA credentials (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P) or AAPC credential (COC, CIC, CPC-H, CPC), required ormust be certified within one year of hire, required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Must have experience in coding facility-based service coding with strong CPT coding skills

• Current coding credential is required

• Must be proficient working in Epic and 3M

• Should have experience coding for a varied case mix and complex cases like spinal fusion, breast reconstruction and joint replacements.

•  Experience creating physician coding queries

•  Must be knowledgeable in addressing medical necessity and NCCI edits at the time of coding

Physical Requirements: Sedentary work - prolonged periods of sitting and exert up to 10 lbs. force occasionally

Pay Range

$25.50 - $43.26 / hour
