What does this Health Physics Monitor Apprenticeship opportunity offer you? 

 

We are excited to welcome apprentices to our Health Physics Monitor Apprenticeship Programme!

 

A Health Physics Monitor also known as a Radiation Protection Technician, helps to protect people and the environment from the adverse effects of ionising radiation and contamination by providing radiation monitoring services.  

 

You will provide safety-related advice to operators by taking radiation and contamination measurements using specialist equipment, interpreting the results, and applying them to real life scenarios. You will need to be comfortable working with numbers and completing mental calculations as you will not always have access to a calculator. This role is critical to ensuring safe operations in nuclear facilities and requires a high level of attention to detail, quality and accuracy in recording and interpreting measurements. You will need to have a positive attitude to health, safety and quality. 

 

During the course of this 2-year Apprenticeship, you’ll learn from our industry-leading experts and gain valuable experience, whilst studying for Level 2 qualifications in Radiation Protection. You can expect on-the-job training and the kind of practical experience you simply can't get in a classroom. 

 

You will be fulfilling a key role in protecting people and the environment by becoming experienced in hands on radiation protection, and how it’s used in a nuclear power plant. You will learn how to measure radiation which cannot be seen, smelled, or felt. You will become familiar with the systems making up the first nuclear power station to be built in a generation.  

 

As you gain experience, you will need to wear personal protective equipment for a significant proportion of the working day, including respiratory protective equipment. In this role you will be required to work outside in all weather …
