The Head of Learning and Development (L&D) is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and evaluation of learning and development programs that support the organization’s strategic goals. This role involves overseeing an instructional designer, collaborating with stakeholders across the organization, and ensuring that all training initiatives are aligned with business needs. The Head of L&D will drive initiatives that enhance employee skills, improve performance, and support career development, fostering a culture of continuous learning.

This is a full-time position located in New York City. We offer flexible workplace policies that allow for working remotely 3 days a week and require being in our NYC office 2 days a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays).

  • Learning and Development Strategy:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive learning and development strategy that aligns with the organization’s business objectives.
    • Identify current and future training needs through collaboration with senior management, department heads, and HR partners.
    • Lead the creation of training programs that address leadership development, technical skills, soft skills, and compliance.
  • Program Design and Delivery:
    • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of learning programs, including eLearning, instructor-led training, workshops, and blended learning solutions.
    • Ensure that training programs are engaging, effective, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of employees at all levels, in all regions.
    • Incorporate the latest learning technologies and methodologies to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of training programs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborate with business leaders and HR partners to identify learning needs and develop customized solutions.
    • Act as a consultant to departments across the organization, advising on best practices for learning and development.
    • Communicate the value and impact of L&D initiatives to stakeholders, ensuring alignment and support.
  • Change Management and Organizational Development:
    • Lead change management initiatives related to training and development, ensuring smooth implementation and adoption.
    • Support organizational development efforts by designing programs that promote performance management, culture change, leadership development, and employee engagement.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Implement metrics and evaluation methods to assess the effectiveness and impact of training programs.
    • Analyze feedback and data to continuously improve training content and delivery.
    • Report on the ROI of learning and development initiatives to senior management.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    • Make recommendations for the L&D budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with organizational priorities.
    • Identify and secure external training providers, consultants, and technology vendors as needed.
    • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external vendors to ensure high-quality training services.

Requirements, Experience and Qualifications 

The ideal incumbent will have (the following is an example):  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in learning and development, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing successful learning and development programs
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theories, and training technologies
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and eLearning development tools
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to measure and report on the impact of L&D initiatives

Compensation

Expected Salary: $118,100 - $140,000*

Target Annual Incentive bonus: 10%

*Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, and location.
