Head of Exchange Traded Funds

Duties & Responsibilities

Senior level role serving as a strategic advisor for all service lines of business (accounting, custody, transfer agent) of exchange traded funds in conjunction with Senior Manager and/or Manager direct reports. Interacts with clients and ensures department delivers daily requirements across all lines of business for all exchange traded funds (ETFs).

  • Partners with Executive Leadership Team to formulate and execute strategic initiatives
  • Partners with other Departments in developing solutions for activities that benefit UMB
  • Advocates and advises on the development and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity plans
  • Key ETF contact to drive revenue growth in collaboration with client relationship managers and sales team
  • Manages a team of ETF senior managers and/or managers and their direct reports
  • Formulates solutions to support and drive revenue growth, client retention, and the development of new service lines
  • Coaches teammates to foster an environment of continuous career development and engagement
  • Oversees team composition including ETF assignments, staffing requirements, and compensation requirements
  • Recommends salary adjustments and bonus allocations for the department
  • Ensures department receives technical, industry and client specific training and acts as a resource for the department
  • Develops and communicates performance objectives and individual development plans for direct reports. Works with direct reports to develop objectives for their teams. Aligns performance objectives with corporate and service-line strategic objectives.
  • Provides coaching and mentorship support for direct reports and the team as a whole
  • Collaborates with Human Resources, as needed; acts as escalation point for any issues the department is experiencing
  • Assesses current policies and procedures for risk and efficiency; and develops new policies and procedures for new and/or upgraded technology
  • Escalation and strategic contact for clients being serviced by the department 
  • Reviews ETF client onboarding configurations.
  • Advocates to improve system functionality and prioritize enhancements needed for efficiency
  • Recommends new technology to support growth initiatives
  • Oversees testing for new releases to the accounting and custody ecosystem and oversees the presentation of upgrade features to the department
  • Identifies and proposes solutions for daily accounting and pricing issues
  • Partners with various internal/external parties to ensure compliance with SEC, IRS, and GAAP reporting regulations.
  • Provides oversight of management exception reports – escalates and facilitates any necessary changes to the system
  • Key contact for SSAE18 audit and reporting oversight
  • Participates in industry conferences and seminars to ensure the teams are up to date on the latest rules, regulations and technology innovations
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

MINIMUM:

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills and advanced Excel skills. Demonstrated aptitude and experience with in-house software
  • Demonstrated managerial and teamwork skills
  • Strong understanding of the industry and the changing environment while anticipating client needs
  • Strong relationship development skills and an aptitude for client service
  • Exhibit initiative in a high performing culture and have a track record of meeting or beating deadlines
  • Demonstrates excellent work habits, attendance, and attitude
  • Required to communicate effectively with clients and/or coworkers using common telecommunication and computer equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrate initiative both independently and within a diverse team or with a diverse range of people
  • Experience managing in office, hybrid and fully remote associate team
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop team members

Requirements

MINIMUM:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Investment Banking, Economics, International Business. or any combination of education experience that would provide an equivalent background
  • Fifteen (15) years fund accounting, ETF accounting, or related experience
  • Seven (7) years Management experience, preferably in Financial Services

PREFERRED

  • Certified Public Accountant

Work Environment:

Typical office environment. Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Supervision: 

Manages a team of ETF accountants including oversight, hiring, selection and performance management.

Compensation Range:

$110,250.00 - $235,810.00

The posted compensation range on this listing represents UMB’s standard for this role, but the actual compensation may vary by geographic location, experience level, and other job-related factors.
